Hey, bet you didn't know California Republicans held a straw poll over the weekend and that the overwhelming winner was Ron Paul. Of course you didn't -- there was virtually no coverage.

Of 833 ballots cast, Paul received 44.9% of the vote. Rick Perry placed a distant second with 29.3%. Mitt Romney was third with 8.8%. Michele Bachmann, who was the only candidate along with Paul who addressed the meeting, could garner just 7.7% of the vote.

According to Politico, Romney is not participating in straw polls this year, likely as a way to avoid looking like a loser of the high-profile Iowa straw poll last month, which indeed he did lose. It doesn't appear that Perry put up much of an effort in California.

Paul is big in straw polls. His supporters turn out in droves to give him wins or at least solid showings. However these victories are not translating to support in national polls -- he routinely trails Perry and Romney, and sometimes other Republicans, in those polls.

This is ridiculous these idiots on the news keep taking the credit away from Ron Paul~! Enough is enough how much longer can they keep this game up??

Following Paul's libertarian model, you are welcome to publish your own opinions to tell the "truth." Fox business has "Stossel" and "Freedom Watch," which are the only truly libertarian news and opinion programs. You would think they would help make up for the gaps on networks like CNN and MSNBC.

The other option is that not enough people care about Paul to make him newsworthy. Bachmann has been getting even less coverage than Paul recently because everyone now knows her candidacy is a non-starter at this point. Paul is more popular than he would be in most elections, but his support is limited. He can't win the northeast, the west coast, or the rust belt, which means he can't win nationally.

1. No matter how hard Paul would work as president, it requires the house and senate to get things done, this is what we've seen the last few years. 2.You are quite right, Paul is not electable on his own. 3. If he does run as a third party candidate, he will work as a "spoiler" just like Nader and Perot did. These spoilers undermine the candidate they are closest to politicaly.

The straw poll is irrelevant. National polling has Paul in a distant and consistent third among GOP candidates. Unless Perry and Romney are caught together in a gay love tryst, Paul doesn't stand a chance in winning any significant primaries. On a national level, Paul is as electable as Ralph Nader is from the left, meaning not at all. I know he has fierce support among libertarian leaning conservatives, but this doesn't sell at the national level. If he were elected, Paul would do everything in his power to dismantle huge portions of the federal government, and he makes no attempt to hide his opinions. This is what endears him to his base, and keeps him from being taken seriously by everybody else. He can't win a national election.

I hope he wins to show you, you don't know shit!!!!

Recent polls show that Paul is danger of dropping below the 2% national minimum to appear on the GOP debates. I think we can see what this trend means...

Look at the poll numbers yourself. Paul doesn't stand a chance. I may not know "shit", but I can prove what I say. I understand your motivation. Paul is probably the only truly libertarian candidate who has been taken seriously enough to be elected to the Congress. Every other libertarian candidate I have met has been a pot smoking card carrying member of NORML. Paul is the most intellectual and best educated libertarian politician I have ever listened to. This doesn't change the fact that he falls down at the national level. He cannot win anyone from the left, he cannot win over most independents, and he cannot win over anyone who favors social supports of any sort. Paul is very attractive to fiscal conservatives, but when people drill down into the details, his support collapses.
