A jobs report released today by the Labor Department showed that 171,000 new jobs were added to the U.S economy last month.

Earlier this week, Republican Senator Charles Grassley falsely claimed that the jobs report would not be released today by the Labor Department, in order to help President Obama in next Tuesday's election.

According to the new report, the private sector added 184,000 jobs, which was brought down by a loss of public sector jobs to the final total of 171,000. October was the the 32nd consecutive month that the private sector has grown in jobs.

ThinkProgress.org reports that the private sector has added 759,000 total jobs under President Obama's first term, compared to October 2004 when the Bush administration lost more than 1 million private sector jobs in its second term.
