Newt Gingrich Compares Gay Marriage and Paganism
Newt Gingrich knows what people want to hear, and he is more than happy to say it. Case in point -- People for the American Way reports that Gingrich held a conference call with Religious Right leaders on Wednesday, when at one point the subject of gay marriage came up.
Here's what Gingrich had to say about the subject:
"It's pretty simple: marriage is between a man and a woman. This is a historic doctrine driven deep into the Bible, both in the Old Testament and in the New Testament, and it's a perfect example of what I mean by the rise of paganism. The effort to create alternatives to marriage between a man and a woman are perfectly natural pagan behaviors, but they are a fundamental violation of our civilization."

This is really not going to help him with independent gay voters. This is really not like most politicians. This is weird.

haha nice hair newt! he could care less about what the bible has to say about marriage but he wants to get elected so he hates on gays. and im 99% sure that every pagan isnt gay.
This is really a crazy perspective. I think gay lifestyle is wrong because of the biology not the bible.

Ummm.... EXCUSE ME? What? That made no sense to me at all. Gay marriage and Paganism have nothing in common. LGBT communities just want the same basic rights. Pagans believe in many Gods and Goddess (except for an evil force). Not even close to the same issue...
He's trying to say that the only legitimate marriage is christian marriage - maybe jewish. He is equating gay marriage with pagan marriage, meaning both are illegitimate.
He's full of it... if two wiccans get married by a druid with a marriage license... ta da! Legal pagan marriage.
He probably knows he has lost the wiccan vote and the gay vote anyway, so this just pandering to his base as usual.
Mewt should know what he is talking about. Nobody is more an expert on marriages than he is, after all, he is on his third. ALong as his current wife is fine with an open marriage, Newt will keep her. Maybe not even trade her in for a younger version. At least the homophobic Rick Santorum doesn't cheat on his spouse, which has been Newt's problem from day one.
