And then there were five -- Jon Huntsman has dropped out of the race for the Republican nomination for president.

Huntsman made the announcement in South Carolina on Monday, nearly a week after a disappointing third place finish in the New Hampshire primary, a state on which the moderate had pinned his hopes. But he failed to catch fire, garnering just 17% of the vote. He was sure to fare far worse in more conservative South Carolina.

He threw his support behind Mitt Romney despite admitting the two men have differences "and space between us on some of the issues."
