Fox News' Dr. Keith Ablow: Joe Biden May have Dementia

article image

Fox News’ trotted out their “Medical A-Team” led by anti-gay and anti-trans quack Dr. Keith Ablow to delve into a psychoanalysis of the vice presidential debate on Sunday, with Ablow declaring that, “from a physician’s perspective,” that Biden’s energetic demeanor suggested dementia.

According to Ablow:

I did not evaluate Joe Biden, but if someone said to me, we want you to do what’s really required to know what happened there, you have to put dementia on the differential diagnosis. You have to say, bizarre laughter, interrupting. If this were your dad or your grandfather, wouldn’t you say if you brought him to me, Keith, you’ve got to tell me, is he suffering with dementia? Because he can’t seem to listen, he’s laughing inappropriately.

Ablow is obviously following the FOX meme to attack Biden over his strong debate performance.  Mike Huckabee, after the Vice Presidential debate claimed Biden acted like “an obnoxious drunk,” while Sean Hannity suggested Biden had sampled bourbon before going onstage.

It’s a well-known fact that Joe Biden doesn’t drink alcohol.

For Iamawildman, here's your example:

Appellate Court Rules Media Can Legally Lie. By Mike Gaddy. Published Feb. 28, 2003 The court did not dispute the heart of Akre’s claim, that Fox pressured her to broadcast a false story to protect the broadcaster from having to defend the truth in court, as well as suffer the ire of irate advertisers. Fox argued from the first, and failed on three separate occasions, in front of three different judges, to have the case tossed out on the grounds there is no hard, fast, and written rule against deliberate distortion of the news. The attorneys for Fox, owned by media baron Rupert Murdoch, argued the First Amendment gives broadcasters the right to lie or deliberately distort news reports on the public airwaves.

Yup. It's legal to lie and say your news is "fair and balanced"! lmao Ever wonder why it is that Fox News can lie over and over again - yet continue to call itself "News"? It's because Fox News is a corporation - and ever since that 1886 Supreme Court case of Southern Pacific Railroad versus Santa Clara County when a rogue court reporter named JC Bancroft Davis slipped corporate personhood into the legal record - the courts have ruled time and time again that corporations - since they have all the rights that actual people have - could also lie just like people can.

Now that I've proven you

Now that I've proven you wrong (or you've failed in your attempt to prove me wrong) will you continue to claim that Fox News lies over and over? If so, you're being intellectually dishonest, and there's no point in having a discussion with someone who is knowingly intellectually dishonest.

I have responded to you. Go to YouTube and search for the poster "Liberal Viewer." He has dozens of lies by Fox News, including distortions, partial editing to spin stories/quotations, and out and out fabrications.

Close but no cigar. The

Close but no cigar. The reporters in question worked for WTVT and prepared a highly critical - although not scientifically accurate - four part series on Monsanto's use of rGBH. At that time - pay attention here - Fox did not own the station. They bought it later, and as such became part of the litigation. And, to further show how your example isn't valid, the series was never aired. The suit was about the reporters being dismissed, not about WTVT broadcasting false or biased information. A report that NEVER AIRED certainly does not constitute evidence that Fox has ever aired a news report that was biased.

From Reason.com: "In 1997 Wilson and Akre began preparing a piece on a controversial Monsanto milk additive called recombinant bovine growth hormone, or rBGH, which had been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1993. The hormone has been blamed over the years for a variety of real or imagined offenses, from early puberty in girls to prostate cancer. Probably the fairest assessment about the product is that there is mixed scientific opinion, pitting activists against researchers whose funding often comes directly or indirectly from agribusiness companies and their trade associations. The FDA’s scientists judged that the additive posed no health threat.

On balance, the weight of evidence appears to back Monsanto. In October 2003, after more than a decade of intense public debate, The Washington Post summed up the issue this way: “Could hormones meant to make cows give more milk lead to early puberty, as some parents fear? On its face, it sounds plausible enough. But government and pediatric health experts say there are no scientific data to back up such an association.…There is also no evidence that milk from hormone-treated cows contains harmful amounts of antibiotic residue or promotes cancer.”

Wilson and Akre contended that their investigation uncovered the dark secrets of rBGH—notwithstanding that by the time the reporters turned their attention to the issue, more than 2,000 articles had been written on the subject. Their reporting did not contribute to the scientific debate, but it did disclose some moderately interesting Florida angles, such as grocery stores’ refusal to disclose to consumers the use of the chemical.

Prior to broadcast, Monsanto wrote to Fox’s cable news boss, Roger Ailes, arguing that the reporting was palpably biased against the company and warning about the “enormous damage that can be done.” The letter stated that the reporters “have prejudged the safety of” rBGH, and it insisted that Ailes personally ensure the duo “get the facts straight.”

The planned four-part piece, which Fox argued in court was not breakthrough journalism, never aired. Wilson and Akre claimed Monsanto’s rant caused the station to pressure them to broadcast lies—which were basically Monsanto’s defense of its product. WTVT executives countered that they were merely demanding fairness. Wilson and Akre stalled for nine months, producing no other significant work. They constantly rewrote the rBGH script and then, according to the litigation, torpedoed the series every time it neared completion. The reporters claimed they rewrote the script 83 times. They had to bend ordinary mathematics and the English language to get that total: If they added a few words to each part of the series, they called that four rewrites of the project.

By late 1997 the station was fed up and decided not to renew the reporters’ contract. Wilson and Akre filed suit in May 1998."

-----

And how did that suit turn out? "Florida’s Second District Court of Appeal ruled the case had “no merit from its inception”. Here's a bit more, again from Reason.com

"A jury dismissed all claims by Wilson in August 2000 but gave a limited verdict to Akre, ordering Fox to pay her $425,000. In a complicated decision, the jury sided with Akre by agreeing that she was a whistleblower because she had threatened to go to the FCC over portions of the series she believed to be a violation of the 1934 federal Communications Act. Wilson and Akre had argued successfully in their trial that they shouldn’t have to prove news “distortion,” but only that they believed distortion occurred. Jury instructions made six references to that “belief standard.” (Wilson and Akre would neglect to include the believed in most of their subsequent descriptions of the verdict.) How the jury managed to decide for Akre but reject Wilson’s claims was never explained. Wilson, who had represented himself, claimed his aggressiveness repulsed the jury. The Fox lawyers say Akre made a sympathetic plaintiff when she discussed her daughter and described how Fox had ruined her career.

Florida’s Second District Court of Appeal ruled the case had “no merit from its inception” and reversed Akre’s win. Last year, in the final chapter of the legal case, Wilson was ordered to pay WTVT $156,000 in legal bills."

Strong debate performance?

Strong debate performance? You have got to be kidding. Paul Ryan is a US Senator, and as such deserves far more respect than Joe Biden gave him. I don't care what his politics are - you treat the office with respect. While democrats may have enjoyed his, um, "performance", he lost far more independent votes (particularly women) than he gained. He was a boorish pig.

As far as Dr. Keith Ablow is concerned, he has had hundreds of articles published in The New York Times, The Washington Post, U.S. News & World Report, USA Today, Newsweek, The Baltimore Sun, The Boston Herald, etc. Tell me, author Back 2 Stonewall, how many of those publications have published YOUR writings?

CRW and edterry, I challenge you to find one thing that Fox news has said in their news reports that is factually incorrect or biased. You won't find a thing. Fox news presents the news in a truly fair and balanced way. Hannity, et al, are not news reporters. They offer opinion pieces - just as Chris Matthews does. I don't see ANYONE here criticizing MSNBC, despite the fact that Chris Matthews was named by left-wing Media Matters as the 2005 "Misinformer of the Year," citing statements he made in support of President George W. Bush. Or perhaps lefties LIKE him saying things like: "I'll be brutal, the reason she's [Hillary Clinton] a U.S. senator, the reason she's a candidate for president, the reason she may be a front-runner is her husband messed around. That's how she got to be senator from New York. We keep forgetting it. She didn't win there on her merit."

Care to rise to my challenge? Don't be daunted by the time you will waste. Libertarian talk-show host Neil Boortz offered a $1000.00 bounty for any proof of bias in a fox news cast. After six months with no takers, he ended the challenge.

The truth is, every news channel on the air is there for one reason: to make money. As such, they target their audience. Fox targets conservatives - and happens to be the most watched news channel for over ten years running.

cough.. cough... cough...

cough.. cough... cough... wow! The smell of that BS is overwhelming.

I tell you what. There are plenty of excellent examples of Fox news bias and misreporting. I suggest you go to YouTube and search for a regular poster named the "Liberal Viewer." He has dozens and dozens of examples of Fox News exaggerations, selective editing, and outright lies.

Fox is not a new station. Fox is an opinion outlet for the right wing who happens to build its editorials around news stories - some true and some just spin.

Fine. Show me a link where he has an example of Fox News - in a news report - misrepresenting the truth. I've made this challenge plenty of times. So far, no-one has come up with anything. Including you. If you want to win the argument, don't tell me to do this and do that, and someone else says yadda yadda yadda. Show me or move on.

The first featured video shows selective editing by Fox to bias a story against Obama, while the quote from the soldier's mother actually put a negative spin on Romney. CNN actually showed the two sides of the story, which provided negative information/quotations for both candidates.

Okay... in case you are wondering, you lose the argument. Fox is biased and there are too many examples to list here. This "Liberal Viewer" poster has 192 examples of biased stories and lies by FAUX News, and his list is far from exhaustive.

Yadda yadda yadda... slam dunk! I was trying not to publicly embarrass you, but since you insist on being an ass... you will be treated like an ass.

OK, list accepted. Thank you. I've learned something.

Since, as you said, some are more regular than others, I would only add that my liberal list is mostly people who you would see on a virtually weekly basis--sometimes nightly--on Fox. I don't know if that's a fair description of your list or not. Again, I'm willing to be educated about it.

But each time I've tuned into MSNBC ("Morning Joe" excepted), I've seen a studio full of left-leaning commentators and wondered if they even KNOW a conservative.

Anyhow, I'll take your list under advisement. Good response, and it's appreciated.

Strong debate performance? In

Strong debate performance? In what world is acting unprofessionally giving a strong debate performance? He was unable to articulate many points and he refused to acknowledge the administrations mistakes, he failed to know why we were unwilling to go to the aid of Syria by saying that Syria was 5x Larger than Libya therefore did not need our aid.

His inability to control his demeanor during a simple debate while Ryan was able to articulate in precise manner what a Romney/Ryan administration would look like. While Biden could only continue to articulate "more of the same" or place the blame, even when it came to the deaths in Libya.

God, I hope this guy isn't allowed to treat kids. Oh my God! Laughter and energy are signs of dementia, what a quack.

"How do you know so much about everything?'" was asked of a very wise and intelligent man; and the answer was "By never being afraid or ashamed to ask questions as to anything of which I was ignorant." - John Abbott (1821-1893)
