10 Reasons Why Obamacare is Dead
Washington, D.C. — The Supreme Court is gearing up to rule on the constitutionality of The
Affordable Care Act, which is also known as Obamacare. On the face of it, Obamacare would help people who have lost their health insurance if they were laid off from their jobs or if they went bankrupt.
In that respect, the Affordable Care Act kind of sounds all-American. It’s not only set up to
regulate future healthcare costs but it also would subsidize small business health insurance
policies. That’s a winner, right? Wrong.
Obamacare is going to get tossed into the ash bin of history for the following reasons:
● General Ignorance. People know almost nothing about the Affordable Care law. So Americans have no idea how it will affect them. All they know is what they heard in the fear-mongering advertisements and in the politicized news media. So they believe that it will sack small businesses while raising healthcare cost.
● A Hopelessly Divided Middleclass. The political parties and the news media have spent billions of dollars in order to divide the middleclass. Politicians thought they were doing it for the good of their parties. But the actuality is that wealthy Americans need a divided middleclass. That way the rich can continue to make money off people who vote against their self-interest—and who will axe legislators who vote for insurance regulations.
● Healthcare is a Cash Cow. The family of the former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R/
TN) owned a majority share of HCA, the biggest healthcare provider in the U.S. When that was combined with Columbia health insurance, Florida Governor Rick Scott, the new CEO, just about got busted for fraudulent practices—over-billing Medicare to the tune of a half-billion dollars. This highlights the issue that there are big bucks in health insurance and big players, also. No one in their right mind is going to let the Obamacare regulations stand, not when the law intends to reign in the freewheeling mega-corporate players.
● Super PAC Money Goes Against Obamacare 10-to-1. The Supreme Court ruled that rich Americans can spend whatever sums they want on political campaigns. Now, super political action committees have taken over politics in America. Billionaires are secretly donating millions at a time to Super PACs in order to bust those members in Congress who voted for Obamacare.
● A Quarter Billion Dollars of Negative Advertisements. Anti-Obamacare ads have had the effect of burning it into the public mind that it is somehow socialist and evil. It’s even been said that the Affordable Care Act will empower death panels to pull the plug on your grandmother’s life-supports. Meanwhile, a government program, Medicare, provides excellent medical services for 44 million Americans, but it’s not called socialistic or satanic.
● Pro-Business, Activist Supreme Court. The five judges who dictate policy from the Supreme Court bench are pro-business activists. These justices believe in a regulation-free healthcare market, where the best treatment goes to the highest bidder. In doing that, the justices stand firmly against President Obama. They realize that killing Obamacare is the best way to defeat Obama. The constitutionality of the law is not even an issue with them—similar to when they ruled that Bush could be president without there being a final vote count. In a similar vein, the justices have vowed not to read the Affordable Care Act bill before they vote on its constitutionality. It’s just not worth their time.
● Fairness Lost Out to Greed. The argument that fairness reigns in America is no longer true. Since the Reagan Administration began preaching the mantra of Me First, greed has become a family value for a lot of folks. Now a majority of Americans feel that if you help someone else by subsidizing their health insurance policy this will subtract from medical care that you will receive. It’s as if there is a finite amount of medical treatment available and you have to fight for what you have.
● TV News is a Joke. Young adults get most of their news from the comedy programs. They turn to the comedians because they see the news as totally a joke. They learned to be cynical about it by watching their elders, many of whom tune to the politicized cable news stations to learn who to hate. This helps to explain why Americans do not have much factual news about healthcare. The healthcare debate is just one more joke put out to divide Americans, right?
● America is Going Backwards. Instead of catching up with the rest of the industrial nations,
American leaders have decided to take the country back to the past. They’ve already taken the economy back to 1929 pre-Great-Depression-Era levels. At that time, the economy collapsed because a few hundred families controlled most of the wealth. Today is no different. The six kids of Sam Walton, the Walmart founder, own as much property as 90 million other American families combined. With their grip on America’s finances, they and other wealthy individuals are not about to support politicians who will vote for progressive legislation like universal healthcare.
● Americans Prioritize According to their Convictions. Americans vote from gut feelings. If they are convinced that Obamacare goes against the Founding Fathers’ vision of America, they will go against it. That’s why they will empower the next Congress to kill Obamacare, should some parts of it survive being trashed by the Supreme Court. Americans do not have enough information to make decision in their self-interest, so gut feelings rule. And so, the vast majority of people do not realize that if they have health insurance already, Obamacare doesn’t require them to do anything. They falsely believe that it will take away their current policies. So they’re convinced that the all-American thing to do is get rid of Obamacare.
All in all, the deck is stacked against Obamacare. If you are benefitting from the Affordable
Health Act, you had better make new plans. Obamacare is dead. There will not be much of it
left when the Supreme Court rules that it is unconstitutional in late June, 2012. And if you are among the 50 million Americans are without health insurance, you’ll have to live with what Mitt Romney says, “No, no, nooo …you’re too late!”

Healthcare is the 800lbs
Healthcare is the 800lbs gorilla that isn't going away. Republicans need to ATTACK their party and get them to put up a FULL replacement plan to Obamacare. We don't need finger pointing. Healthcare is a monster that shows no signs of slowing down. This issue alone can sink this country. If you get mad at the other side of the isle don't. Get on your party and demand action and compromise with the other side.
You are right that the
You are right that the current system cannot stand on its own, and dumping ACA to go back to they way things are/were is a step backward.
Bold restructuring of how healthcare is managed and financed is the only solution regardless of which party takes action.
I see that Billy the paid
I see that Billy the paid government troll is at it again. Just talking points, eh.
How about it dies for two big reasons:
First, with Obama and the libtards crashing the economy and nearly half of America already being supported by the few who still earn a living, there is no money left to pay for this monster.
Second, there is no provision anywhere that gives our federal government the power to regulate our lives the way this fiasco of a law prescribes. If it is actually implemented, congress and the courts will be an afterthought for the dictator in charge.
Hmmm.... it seems to me the
Hmmm.... it seems to me the last crash was caused by deregulation of the mortgage and finance industries. Our S&L bailout in the 80s and 90s... oh ya, more deregulation. The crash and bankruptcy of multiple airlines - deregulation. The bubble in the stock market in 2000 - more deregulation. The crash Obama inherited started while GWB was still in office. TARP and the stimulus started under Bush. I could go on if you need me to.
Every single person who spends money and/or earns wages pays taxes - sales tax, gas tax, property tax (directly or indirectly), FICA, etc. This idea that not paying income tax means that someone is on the public dole is pure crap.
We are the only developed country in the world without a centralized health care system. We spend more per person than any of these countries, and our health outcomes are much worse. Who's better off?
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
"...If the law is upheld,
"...If the law is upheld, then within 5 years no one will know the difference..."
Other than the tax burden, having a government approved doctor supervise every aspect of your life for the simple reason that the supervision will save the government money. Your employer will be right in there too, protecting his interests. You can see the employer side today with smoking. Employers are beginning to intrude in the private lives of people so that the employer can save money on health costs and replacement of employees.
If you think this is bad, should the supreme court validate health care, wait. You won't have to wait long either.
The tax burden is a myth.
The tax burden is a myth. 20-30% of the population is already on some sort of government sponsored or supplemented health care. When an uninsured person shows up at the ER, generating a $10k bill, that a $100 doctor's visit would have addressed, who do you think bears this burden today? - The taxpayers.
The cost model has been grossly distorted by opponents. MOST countries with centralized health care have lower costs and better outcomes than the US. Our current system sucks!
Obamacare is the epitome of
Obamacare is the epitome of Bureaucratic Dictatorship or, more likely, Bureaucratic Terrorism. These people will come up with new forms to fill out, new regulations to observe, and new hoops to jump through and medical and other costs will skyrocket. The big problem is that after all of that you will be lucky if you can get as good care as you can today at our worst medical institutions. We will be better off with alchemists if this bill stands.
Yet you have not one bit of
Yet you have not one bit of fact or a single reputable source to back you up, just fear-mongering and name calling. Seriously, you're going to use the word "terrorism" when discussing providing people with an affordable path to health insurance? You're only stopping a gnat's eyelash short of calling it Hitler.
Meanwhile, I know a lot of actual people who are able to get health insurance for the first time in years because of the provisions of this legislation.
Medical costs skyrocket because the insurance companies refuse to pay the full amount for many courses of treatment, and only give up a percentage... so the hospitals and doctors are forced to raise their rates so that percentage is enough to keep the hospitals and doctors' offices from going out of business when the patients cannot cover the difference. Who can afford to pay a $40,000.00 hospital bill left over after the insurance has paid its percentage? What good does having insurance do you when you're still bankrupt after deciding you want to not die from a treatable condition like appendicitis?
More than 60% of bankruptcies in the US are due to medical expenses, and 78% of the bankruptcies from medical expenses are people that DID HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE. (source: http://articles.cnn.com/2009-06-05/health/bankruptcy.medical.bills_1_medical-bills-bankruptcies-health-insurance?_s=PM:HEALTH )
Meanwhile, every country with a socialized health system has a better rate of covering patients at a far lower expense than the US, and absolutely no one is bankrupted by it.
I still don't see what the CEO of United Healthcare is doing that's so important that he gets paid more per hour than I earn in a year, when they're just collecting money from their policy holders, investing a large chunk of it, and sitting on the rest until it's needed to pay for someone's treatment. Insurance companies don't provide anyone with health care, they just take care of paying for it - yet they're a lot better at paying themselves than doctors or hospitals.
"Yet you have not one bit of
"Yet you have not one bit of fact or a single reputable source to back you up, just fear-mongering and name calling." This can be applied to Dr. Billy as well.
Read the bill, then tell me that this does not change the fundemental relationship between citizens and government. Healthcare is only a part of the effect of this bill. When reading the bill, remember that this means a whole new large bureaucracy. Bureaucratic terrorism is already a problem in this country. People caught up in "regulations" that are confusing, contradictory and can land you in federal prison, or worse, due to the nature of prosecutions. Witness the case of Micheal Zlinn, convicted and then imprisoned. When he went to his sentencing hearing they couldn't figure out what his crime actually was.
Believe me, I am no stranger to medical bills. I am on the verge of bankrupcy due to them. Some of it I had coveragew for and some not. I go to see if I can take the bills off my income tax and I'm told only if they are over 17% of my income. One change in our tax code and I would have gotten enough back to pay the rest of the med bills each following year with my tax return and I could have stayed out of this trouble. Removing the 17% rule would be a huge relief to many people in the same boat, who cannot afford to pay that much of their income up front. No new bureaucracy needed.
My point here is that there are far better ways to get the same result without this awful bill. Simply allowing people, who are already paying, the time to pay would remove a lot of the problems.
Actually, the bill didn't go
Actually, the bill didn't go far enough. Eliminating private insurance for basic healthcare and moving to a single payer model would make the country much healthier. The data backs this up. Our system is the most expensive and least effective for the money IN THE DEVELOPED WORLD!!!
Tweaking the same system over and over doesn't matter. Let's make all medical expenses 100% deductible with no limits. What do we accomplish if your bills exceed your total income? A single car accident or cardiac surgery could easily bankrupt anyone making 6 figures let alone the average family making $50k-60k. If you have a pre-existing heart condition, and your insurance lapses, you are screwed.
Eliminating pre-existing conditions like this bill does is absolutely essential to providing affordable care. The *ONLY* way this makes sense financially is if everyone buys into the pool. This is just the simplest portion of the bill.
No bill is perfect. Unintended consequences will require revisions. However, the ACA is a move in the right direction.
The legislation hinges on the
The legislation hinges on the supreme court decision. If the law is upheld, nothing will change unless the majority in the senate changes party and Obama is not re-elected. Even then, it likely the democrats will filibuster any attempt to dump the law.
People have already seen many initial benefits - coverage of kids to age 26, better interactions with insurance companies, etc.
If the law is upheld, then within 5 years no one will know the difference. The GOP and opponents of the law know this. They have a narrow window prior to implementation to kill the law. If they fail, it is unlikely to ever go away.
