U.S. Government Shutdown is 'My Idea of Fun' Says Rep. David Schweikert (Video)
About 800,000 federal employees will be sent home and have their pay suspended on Tuesday because of the U.S. government shutdown by the GOP-controlled House, which has been promising a government shutdown since 2010.
Rep. David Schweikert (R-AZ), who is worth an estimated $6 million, told NPR on Tuesday that the U.S. government shutdown was his “idea of fun” (video below).
“It’s been fascinating because in some ways we had to go through, I don’t want to refer to it as dance, but this process for a lot of the American people to actually start to tune in and understand what we were talking about and where the concerns were and where we thought, actually, the way the health care law was written is damaging the economy and creating sort of a part-time kind of America,” said Rep. Schweikert.
Rep. Schweikert did not present any evidence that Obamacare "is damaging the economy."
“This is my idea of fun,” he later said, noted RawStory.com.
Rep. Schweikert did not mention the shutdown of the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) nutrition program, which helps pregnant women and new moms buy healthy food if they're poor and facing nutrition risk, notes The Huffington Post.
Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) also expressed her happiness with the shutdown of the U.S. government on "Fox & Friends" yesterday: “You know, I think you may see a partial shutdown for several days. But people are probably going to realize they can live with a lot less government than what they thought they needed" (video below).
