Michael Vick Involved in Quanis Phillips Shooting?

| by Off The Record

Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick doesn’t seem to be involved in the shooting last night that sent Quanis Phillips to the hospital. Vick was celebrating his 30th birthday at the Guadalajara nightclub/restaurant in Virginia Beach and the night ended with Phillips being shot.

Police are now saying that Vick is “of no interest” in the search to find out who shot Phillips. But Vick could still have major problems with the federal government and/or the NFL and/or the Philadelphia Eagles.

Do you remember the name Quanis Phillips from Vick’s 2007 dogfighting escapades? He was, um, one of his co-defendants and part of Vick’s sentence included never having contact with any of his co-conspirators ever again. If Phillips was at Vick’s party, it very well could be that Vick violated the terms of his federal probation.

And don’t forget that Roger Goodell made it clear enough for Stevie Wonder to see that Vick was not to so much as jaywalk or he’d be chucked from the NFL.

He said, “you are required to abide by the terms of the supervised release that were imposed on you by the court, which include not committing any further crime, limits on who you may associate with, prohibitions regarding alcohol and drug use, possession of a firearm or other dangerous weapon, and forbidding you to own, possess or be involved with the sale of any dog.”

Urban Affairs columnist David Squires of the Hampton Roads Daily Press wrote in a blog today that his sources tell him that there was a possible incident between Vick and Phillips that involved the smashing of cake in one of their faces.

“The story goes that Quanis threatened to smash birthday cake in Vick’s face, or that he actually smashed the cake in Vick’s face,” Squires wrote.

“Another version is that someone smashed cake in Quanis’ face — or threatened to smash it in his face.

“Anyway, the confrontation moved outside — where I’m told there were several still cameras and video cameras.

“Cooler heads did NOT prevail, and ‘Q’ was shot in the shopping center parking lot.

“It is unclear whether Vick was still around at the time of the shooting, but he was definitely not there when police arrived.”

Other reports state that the witnesses with all the cameras have all clammed up. In this situation, it’s frowned upon to be the “snitch.” This is why so many urban crimes go unsolved. No one wants to be the one who rats someone else out. Typically, justice is done, but not in a courtroom. Justice has a different way of getting done on the street.

Regardless, it would seem that Vick was interacting with Phillips, which is a no-no.

But former Atlanta Falcons teammate Roddy White, who never blossomed with Vick because Vick isn’t very good at throwing a football, was there at the party and says that he and Vick were long gone by the time the shooting occurred.

“We were already gone by the time that stuff started happening, so I don’t know what’s going to go on with that or whatever, but we didn’t have anything to do with it,” White told the Daily Press on Friday.

The Eagles are painfully aware of this situation and released a statement on the matter.

“We are aware of the incident that occurred in Virginia early this morning and are in the process of gathering all of the facts,” the team said. “Until then, we will not have any comment on this matter.”

This one ain’t over. OTR doesn’t think Vick was involved in the shooting (like we’d know), but Vick will still have to explain why he and Phillips were in the same building.
