Piercing Kittens: Cute or Animal Cruelty? Trial Begins in Penn.
Submitted by Mark Berman on Feb 3, 2010
The trial has begun for a northeastern Pennsylvania woman charged with animal cruelty for marketing 'gothic kittens' with ear and neck piercings over the Internet. More from the Associated Press:

I don't know, if this is animal cruelty , shouldn't the practice of piercing a baby 's ears be child cruelty? If this is ruled as animal cruelty then piercing a baby's ears should, in turn, be ruled as child cruelty.
pierced ears. Are we going to criminalize that practice?
I'm not in love with branding, but I could see that it might be required for livestock management. This is different; maiming an animal for entertainment purposes is unethical and just plain revolting.
For criminalizing RFID tracking implants in animals and the branding of livestock. Seems like a slippery slope. Seems like a tiny minority of cats were prepared for the goth pet niche market, in comparison to the above cases.
This is just another case of statistical insignificance being drummed up as a real issue. Move along, folks... Go back to your lives.
The plural of 'anecdote' is not 'data'.
