People Will Die Because of Court's Handgun Decision

Following today's U.S. Supreme Court decision in McDonald v. Chicago that the City of Chicago's handgun ban is unconstitutional under the Second Amendment, thus applying the Court's 2008 decision in District of Columbia v. Heller beyond Washington, DC, Violence Policy Center Legislative Director Kristen Rand issued the following statement:

"People will die because of this decision. It is a victory only for the gun lobby and America's fading firearms industry. The inevitable tide of frivolous pro-gun litigation destined to follow will force cities, counties, and states to expend scarce resources to defend longstanding, effective public safety laws. The gun lobby and gunmakers are seeking nothing less than the complete dismantling of our nation's gun laws in a cynical effort to try and stem the long-term drop in gun ownership and save the dwindling gun industry. The 30,000 lives claimed annually by gun violence and the families destroyed in the wake of mass shootings and murder-suicides mean little to the gun lobby and the firearm manufacturers it protects.

"It is our hope that Chicago's citizens will follow the lead of the residents of the District of Columbia--who were stripped of their handgun ban in the wake of the Supreme Court's June 2008 decision in District of Columbia v. Heller. In the two years since that decision, only 900 firearms have been registered in the District that otherwise could not have been registered before the Heller ruling. The citizens of DC reject the wrong-headed notion that more guns make us safer. We know the facts prove the opposite and that areas of the country with the highest concentration of gun ownership also have the highest rates of gun death. We urge Chicago residents to consider these indisputable facts before considering bringing a handgun into their homes--an act that could well prove fatal to themselves or a loved one."

How bout anti automobile laws , lord knows with 40000+ deaths each year we need laws to curtail automobile ownership.
Firearms are involved in 0.5% of accidental deaths nationally, compared to motor vehicles at 37%.
Oh, and also anti fire laws, at 2.5% of annual accidental deaths fire seems to be way more dangerous than firearms and that doesn't even take into consideration poisoning(22%), falls(17%), suffocation(5%), drowning (2.9%) and medical mistakes (1.7%) we just plain need more laws to control all of these dangerous things!
Oh and how could I forget that scourge of America, pedal cycles (0.7%) were all DOOMED!!!......

Yes, my dear, people are going to die because of this, correct, decision and they will be criminals. Liberal judges wont put them away, so the people of Chicago and other cities will have to do the job that the liberal judges wont do. Maybe now the phrase "If you cant do the time, dont do the crime " will have some teeth to it.
It will be a great purge of bad DNA from our society .

maybe it will be the criminals dieing trying to do illegal activities to a family that is just trying to get a good nights rest. If it is the criminals that die, our tax dollars do not have to pay for a cell and care and most certainly will never hurt anyone again. I think we all win.

The Violence Policy Center is the biggest bunch of losers and morons that has ever assembled and named itself. This article is about as dimwitted as they can be. You are talking about Chicago and Washington DC as if these UNCONSTITUTIONAL laws actually protected people from gun crime . Have you ever been to either of these cities ? or at least to the areas of these cities that are crime infested? Appearantly not as they along with New York have the worst violent crime and only because these laws ensured theives that law abiding citizens would not be able to defend themselves without breaking the law and being criminals themselves.

Pplz iz gonnaz die!

Please, get with the times. We tried your sorry excuse of liberties for safety, and as Mr Franklin predicted we ended up with the greased end of the stick.

The only people who are going to die with legal firearm ownership are the rapist , muggers, murderers and all around criminals that make up the gun grabber inc. complex.

Those of us who are legal citizens wanting to protect ourselves and our legally attained assets from unwanton assault .

I'm truly sorry you and your ilk just lost your job security . But things happen you know.

"It is a victory only for the gun lobby and America's fading firearms industry."

Kristen, sweetheart, stop lying to yourself. I know the truth hurts baby , but let it in. Breath in that freedom and let it infiltrate your veins.

So but seriously, don't be a dumb little girl . "It is a victory only for the gun lobby"? Really? It sure as hell is a victory for me, and every other gun owner I know (and I know a lot of gun owners honey bear). "America's fading firearms industry." Where the hell have you been? Business is booming. Everyone's picking up guns , and I don't mean the gun sales caused by the post-inauguration freakout.

Stop lying to yourself and others.

"only 900 firearms have been registered in the District that otherwise could not have been registered before the Heller ruling. The citizens of DC reject the wrong -headed notion that more guns make us safer."

You, my dear, are an unequivocal imbecile. A halfwit, a dunce, a moron, a ninny, a dimwit, and a numbskull. The relatively small number of firearms registered in DC since its ban was overturned is not because the residents are "ahead of the curve" or "more enlightened". No, they're not. They're just bogged down by an ungodly amount of new, post-ban red tape, bureaucracy, and regulations put into place to make it a real pain in the ass to get a gun. Testing the gun owners and ballistics tests for the gun cost money and time.

So you keep lying to yourself and your can't-think-for-themselves followers, you silly little urchin.

Molon labe, baby. Molon labe.

Gun sales were up 30% in 2009 alone. The best numbers I can find prior to that is something over 40% of the population owns guns .

In the mean time, Heller has filed a second lawsuit over DC's tactics to defy the Supreme Court's ruling in his previous case.

The Brady Bunchers are finally showing their true colors. Their agenda is not, and never was, about disarming criminals, but about disarming law abiding citizens.

Truly, it is the Brady Bunch that is quickly fading into well deserved obscurity. They've told so many obvious lies mainstream America has relegated them to Chicken Little status. They're the little boys that cry wolf . They're the mice that voted to bell the cat.

As Machiavelli wrote, back in a time when crossbows were the peak of modern weaponry, "It is unreasonable to expect he who is armed to obey he who is unarmed.".
