Patrick Stewart and UK comedy star James Corden got in an uncomfortable verbal sparring session at the Glamour Awards, and "Avatar"'s Zoe Saldana stepped in to try to smooth things over.

The spat began when "Star Trek" legend Stewart came onstage to present the award for Film Actress of the Year. Stewart called "Gavin and Stacey" star Corden over to the podium and took him to task for looking bored. "I want to speak to James here," he said into the microphone. "It is James, isn't it?" Corden, looking miffed, approached the mike. Stewart then said, "When the presenters are up here, and when the recipients are receiving their awards, don't stand at the back of the stage with your hands in your pockets, looking around as though you wished you were anywhere but here."

Corden, who was hosting the awards ceremony, responded, "You couldn't be more wrong, sir. If it looked like that, I'm so sorry. But when you come up and present an award, just f**king get on with it."

Stewart then said to Corden, "From where I was sitting, I could see your belly, and that was all the way at the back of the room." Corden countered, "Sorry, I'm waiting for the punchline. You could see my belly. I can see you dying right now.''

Zoe Saldana won Film Actress of the Year. As she received the reward from Stewart, she told Corden, ''I like your belly... but I would pay to see Sir Patrick Stewart dying on stage any day.'' Meanwhile, behind her, Stewart and Corden began to bicker again.

Once Stewart was offstage, Corden said, ''OK, can we get a taxi ready, please? The old man's going home.''
