Dominican Republic authorities are searching for Baltimore Orioles pitcher Alfredo Simon in connection to the murder of a 25-year-old male, according to published media reports.

The police released a statement saying they want to question the 29-year-old Simon about the shooting of Michael Almonte Castillo and injuries suffered by his 17-year-old brother. The shooting is said to have occurred on early Saturday morning.

As per police accounts, the shooter immediately fled the scene – a small park in Luperon. The little town is approximately 190 miles north of Santo Domino and is in the province of Puerto Plata.

Authorities claim they made contact with Simon by way of phone and urged him to surrender.

Castillo, meanwhile, died of a gunshot wound to the chest while his brother suffered an injury to his right arm.

Simon has played for the Orioles for three years – posting 17 saves, a 4-2 record and a 4.93 earned run average in 49 total games last year.
