On 'Curb Your Enthusiasm,' Larry David Urinates on Jesus
Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on last night’s episode of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” the HBO show where Larry David plays himself:Mention Larry David in a word association game and “Seinfeld” rolls off the lips. That show, which David created, wrote and produced, was brilliant. “Curb Your Enthusiasm” is not. Indeed, last night’s episode demonstrates that David’s best years are behind him. He ought to quit while he’s ahead.
At one point in the show, David goes to the bathroom in a Catholic home and splatters urine on a picture of Jesus; he doesn’t clean it off. Then a Catholic woman goes to the bathroom, sees the picture and concludes that Jesus is crying. She then summons her equally stupid mother and the two of them fall to their knees in prayer. When David and Jerry Seinfeld (playing himself) are asked if they ever experienced a miracle, David answers, “every erection is a miracle.” That’s what passes for creativity these days.
Was Larry David always this crude? Would he think it comedic if someone urinated on a picture of his mother? This might be fun to watch, but since HBO only likes to dump on Catholics (it was just a couple of weeks ago that Sarah Silverman insulted Catholics on “Real Time with Bill Maher”), and David is Jewish, we’ll never know.

I agree. You know what your getting yourself into when you turn on HBO and Curb Your Enthusiasm. If you don't like it, don't watch it. If you do you should check out this widget from Susie Essman. She plays Jeff's wife on the show. Its hilarious. Enjoy!

if someone is breaking an ethical, moral of rule of law ...turn away and let it be? That's how our country became great alright!

A miracle!
If someone urinated on a picture of my imaginary friend, I may not be too happy. But then, how could I have a picture of an imaginary friend anyway? It must be a miracle!

"Was Larry David always this crude?"
Yes, so I don't know why you are so offended when he makes fun of religion . He makes fun of everything. Including himself being Jewish. In fact, I think he has made fun of Jewish people than Christians . Were you upset when he did it then?

IT'S BLASPHEMY!
Thanks for a well written article! People, ask yourselves if you would appreciate Larry David urinating on a religious Jewish figure? I would be certain that you would all protest and call it Anti-Semitic. Well, have an open mind about this subject and understand, this is Blasphemy. It's unacceptable and it's insensitive to his loyal fans out there. You can't just say shut the TV or don't watch, that's a very poor argument. Sorry but it is. Also, It does not mean that everyone who's jumping to defend Christianity is a hardcore Christian, it's just that it's not cool for anyone to poke fun of Any Religious Figure. The world is already a disaster with all the wars and racism . People like Larry David make matter's worst and only add fuel to the fire...Very distasteful and I am confident all the educated humans out there regardless of their religion , will agree. For those of you ignorant people, there is nothing more to say to you. You just have to experience life and learn the hard way.
PEACE!!!

The intolerant Christian bashers
It's interesting that the two current commenters show their complete intolerance for Christians . You can be sure that these are the very same people who proclaim that Christians are intolerant. You don't see people like Mr. David portraying the same type off scene with a picture of Mohommad. It's always open season on Christians. We live in a country where those filled with hate for Christians get a green light to slander and defame Christians. They are America's hypocrites.

Embarassed or Angry
I wonder once the two women in the sketch found out that the stains on the picture was urine as opposed to tears would they have been embarrassed for being so silly ....or most likely angry that someone urinated on their imaginary deity.

CYE
Look, it's a TV show. I'm sure if you saw "Mary, Joseph, and Larry" would would be just as offended. You know what? Donohue and his little cabal of intolerant hypocrites actively seek out this sort of thing. Isn't watching someone desecrate an image of their invisible sky wizard just as much of a sin?
They have no problem with anti-Muslim propaganda, of course, any more than they do bombing clinics.
Grow up. It's a TV show. Stop manufacturing controversy and reexamine what you're encouraging your flock to do.

I am trully amazed that this dispicable behavior continues under the disguise of comedy. Larry David is such a coward. He would never insult the Islam religion for fear of being killed. Go ahead,Larry insult a religion that is not as forgiving as Catholics. yopu weasel.

Actually...
Actually there is an entire season of Curb where Larry hires a Muslim detective to find his biological parents who happen to be Christian, making Larry a gentile. Needless to say, with this brilliant plot Larry makes fun of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. So much for being a weasel.

Its a show
Larry David has been known to be cruel, then again, it is his tv show. He holds the right to say what he wants. He even bashes his own religion . Theres no reason to complain about his actions on 'Curb Your Enthusiasm', when you can simply change the channel.

Really?
I would have thought that Bill Donohue is the last person to be lecturing others on civility given his recent outrageous attack on gay men published online by the Washington Post. Not his first rant on the subject and I daresay it won't be his last.

Blasphemy?
Where is this unwritten rule that no one can make fun of or even question religion and faith? Comedy is great because it has no boundaries. Comedians constantly push the envelope on what is funny and what is over the line be it with religion, race ...etc. I guess comedy is funny if it is not you or your beliefs that are getting made fun of. Lighten up people and laugh at yourselves. After all Larry did not pee on Jesus on purpose, it was an accident.

We must make caricatures of all superstition
Everything that is not supported by verifiable, falsifiable evidence is by definition superstition. This naturally includes ALL religions, tooth fairies, pink unicorns, alchemy, astrology, belief that the mercury retrograde affects our lives, that the earth is flat, that the holocaust did not happen, that evolution is false, that our planet is less than 10,000 years old, ...
Ignorance is not a crime but society needs to make its best efforts to reduce ignorance.
People can believe whatever superstition they want as long as they do not invoke their superstition to impose superstitious morality on the rest of us.
When they do - and we don't have to look far to see that this happens all the time - we must make caricatures of all superstitions that do.
If they feel offended, all they have to do is open their eyes and use their brains and reason. Parody and comedy are great ways to get people to see that their beliefs don't make sense.
Try the following experiment: get a group of people together that firmly believe that holy book A is true and then make fun of all the nonsense that people who believe in holy book B believe. Then ask how many of those who were almost laughing themselves to death would be offended if group B did the same of group A. Finally ask them why they believe holy book A to be true. If they are honest, they will admit that they grew up with holy book A and never really thought about it.
Making fun of superstitions does not mean that you are disrespectful of the people who believe it them.
The world will be a better place if it is equally OK to criticize or mock any religion , any restaurant, any piece of music, any piece of art, any political view, any ...
Don't you see that we already do all of that, except religion?
That's why I support David Larry independent of how funny or not funny I found this video clip.

A challenge to supporters
If you think it's OK for Hollywood to urinate on an image of Jesus, then if you have spheres in your pants, you should have no problem urinating on an image of Muhammed. Since no one would dare, all you supporters are cowards, period. Hollywood has a proven record of insulting Christianity by ridiculing Christians and Christian symbols. It's a not so subtle agenda by Hollywood big-wigs to destroy Christianity, for whatever perverted reason. I just hope that people remember who destroyed Christianity and helped the ascendancy of Islam in this country. When Islam's foot is upon your necks, you will be crying for someone to help you and there will be no one left. This is nothing new, read the history of previous civilizations destroyed from within by malevolent sickos.

ok...
I think that all religions are mythos. I am even pretty open to making fun of religion , and even the religious. But only up to a point.
My real question though is why do some of you assume that if a person is fine with urinating on Jesus (bad bad taste) that they wouldn't be fine with doing the same to Mohammed? And why do you immediately go that route in your argument? If you want to defend your mythos, do so, but contain to the argument of your mythos.
I get the set up of the joke, but peeing on people isn't really funny.
