Overconfident Teen Loses at National Spelling Bee (Video)

| by Michael Allen

Jacob Williamson, 15, was confident, maybe too confident, of victory at the Scripps National Spelling Bee on Thursday

Williamson, from Cape Coral, Florida, was asked to spell the word “kabaragoya,” which is a huge lizard in Southeast Asia, noted Mediaite.com.

“I know it, I know it, I totally know it!" Williamson shouted to audience applause (video below).

But when he began spelling the word Williamson started with a "c" instead of a "k," which eliminated him from the 10th round.

After a bell sounded, Williamson yelled, "What?!"

According to Gawker, Williamson was able to gather his wits and gracefully leave the stage, even high-fiving the remaining contestants as he made his exit.
