A 4-year-old California girl who went missing during a family gathering was found sleeping under a bed nearly seven hours later.
The girl was first reported missing on Friday night. Amieya Renee Stewart disappeared at around 5 p.m. from her home, prompting her family to call the police.
Police came and conducted a sweep of the neighborhood, fearing that an abduction had taken place.
After the prolonged search, Stewart was discovered sleeping under her grandmother’s bed.
“She was surrounded by many different items and unfortunately had gone undetected,” a police spokesperson said.
Her mother, Christina Nance, said that police dogs sniffed inside the home, but were unable to find any traces of the 4-year-old.
"I just want to tell everybody thank you," said Nance. "[Amieya] means a lot to me. I'm sorry that she was in here. I feel like we looked for her really, really good and they had the dogs come in and everything. I'm sorry to put everybody through this, but I'm so happy she's okay and that nothing bad happened to her."
