Obama to End Limits on Stem Cell Research

| by DeepDiveAdmin

WASHINGTON --- In yet another major rollback of Bush administration policies, President Barack Obama is expected to sign an executive order on Monday that will remove limitations on stem cell research.

Numerous media outlets are reporting that Obama will follow through on a promise he made long before he began campaigning for the Oval Office by lifting an eight-year federal-funding freeze imposed by President George W. Bush.

Stem cells are highly controversial because one camp sees the research as vital for scientific discoveries (including Parkinson's disease and spinal cord injuries), while the other camp believes the work destroys a human embryo.

According to the Associated Press, "Stem cells are the body's master cells, the source of all cells and tissue, like brain, blood, heart, bones and muscles. Embryonic stem cells come from days-old embryos and many scientists consider them the most powerful because they can transform into any type of cell in the body."
