NRA Says Solution is a Secure Mexican Border, Not Gun Control
As we continue to report, Congress has jumped into the topic of Mexican border violence with both feet, having held 10 different Subcommittee and Full Committee hearings on the topic, with more coming. It has also become clear that anti-gun politicians and groups are intent on using this issue to advance new gun laws.
In the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Drugs and Crime, Sen. Dianne Feinstein renewed her attacks on gun owners' rights. During her remarks, she stated that there are over 2,000 guns smuggled into Mexico from the U.S. each day. But when she tried to elicit support for that number from a representative from the BATFE, he responded that the number was much lower. Senator Feinstein was clearly unhappy that he would not endorse her anti-gun sound bite.
Feinstein also repeated the claim that 90% of seized guns are from American sources (please see related story below). In fact, it is unknown where most of the arms possessed by the cartels originate.According to the BATFE 90% of the firearms traced are from American sources, but BATFE only traces 25% of the guns seized by Mexican authorities. The remaining 75% of guns seized along with all the firearms remaining in the hands of the cartels are of unknown origin. The fact that only 25% of the guns seized are traced raises a significant question: Why has the Mexican government not requested traces on the remaining 75%? Could it be because those guns are far less likely to have originated in America? Could it be that the Mexican authorities do not want it known where these guns come from? Could it be that it benefits the Mexican government to continue to blame U.S. gun laws to divert attention away from the rampant corruption of local governments and police forces? Could it be all of the above?
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has also entered the debate, traveling to Mexico and taking the opportunity to blame American gun laws. She called for a renewal of the semi-auto ban, and even trumpeted the ban's illusory impact: "And there's no doubt in my mind that the 10 years we had an assault weapons ban in America was one of the tools that helped to drive down the crime rate."
Perhaps if Clinton had read the congressionally mandated study performed by the Urban Institute (http://www.urban.org/UploadedPDF/aw_final.pdf) she would know it showed that the ban couldn't possibly have had much impact on crime because "the banned guns were never used in more than a modest fraction of all gun murders" before the ban.
In another development that will not please the gun ban crowd, the leader of the Border Patrol Union, T.J. Bonner, said he was "underwhelmed" by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano's plans to secure the border and went on to debunk the idea that Mexican violence is caused by American guns: "The U.S. has more weapons but we don't have that kind of violence in our streets," he said.
American gun owners know that that the real solution to the border violence is to actually secure the border. Shifting the focus to gun laws is nothing more than a calculated attack on our Second Amendment rights.

Most of the guns being used in Mexico to kill civilians and Mexican police is coming from USA. Do not kid yourself that they are not. They are using the gun show loop hole to buy illegal guns. The border is obviously insecure. US has never been able to secure the border. I doubt that we as a country will ever be able to close the border. My solution is close the gun show loophole. Enforce the current guns laws . Every law abiding citizen has a right to buy guns. Every person that does not abide the law should not have access to guns. This is where the problem is. The law abiding citizens think they do not have to take responsibility against illegal gun owners. Gun dealers knowingly sell to criminals and others. 7000 gun dealers on the border will not survive otherwise. There are not enough citizens to buy guns on the border without selling to Mexico.
I snickered when I saw Atty Gen Holder on TV saying the Obama Administration wanted to renew the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban, and then laughed when I read in the news that the Administration was rapidly backtracking. If you look at the list of 19 firearms specifically mentioned in the ban, only two of them - the AK-47 and AR-15 - are considered by the ATF as Mexican DTO "weapons of choice." Furthermore, DTOs generally prefer 7.62mm rifles, and most of the rifles on the list are 5.56mm. The list also doesn't include 9mm handguns , .22 and .38 revolvers, and the FN FiveSeven that the DTOs love so much. If the Administration were ever to put such a list together, the DTOs would just start legally purchasing (like they do now using strawmen) other firearms that would suit their needs, or construct assault weapons using legal parts kits and foreign-made receivers. We don't have enough manpower or resources to sufficiently enforce the gun laws we already have. Enforcing a new ban would be an exercise in futility, and a new ban would serve merely as window dressing for the Mexican government and American people.
I can sum this up with two words. IRAN/CONTRA.
The Mexican President said days ago, that there was corruption in the Mexican Government. He also added "there is corruption in the US Government". Unfortunately, he didn't go far enough...I will.
The weapons/military type; were supplied to the Contras and more then likely were manufactured here(US).
It is that far fetched that these weapons migrated northward into Mexico into drug cartels hands?
Why should the American people give up their right to "bear arms" because of "blow back" from CIA/government operations?
Isn't that cozy for the New World Order. Hey Nancy, you can't be that stupid and still breathe.
Given that corrupt police are involved in most of the kidnapping-for-ransom rings, the Mexican government ought to respect their own Constitution (which includes a right to keep and bear arms) and allow _any_ adult in good standing to carry a concealed handgun for killing kidnappers. Furthermore, gangs would have a harder time intimidating their opponents with murder and the threat their of -- if their opponents had the ability to shoot back anytime and any place.
Other than that, the Mexicans should treat this as a Civil War, and execute anyone associated with the gangs for treason. Either that, or they should legalize the drug trade and let the U.S. decide how we should keep the drugs on the Mexican side of the border.
I believe it was Adolph Hitler in "Mein Kamp" that stated if you tell the same lie, loud enough and often enough, it will be accepted as truth. Our Left Wing Politicians, gun control advocate organizations and their Main Stream Media lackies are very adept at this...
These anti gun nuts will publish anything to make their case. Hand Gun Control published firearm death statistics that doubled the actual figures. It took a state governor complaining to the Clinton administration to discover the intentional fraud.
Most are the Military weapons the US government gave to the Mexican government. Next step in compleating the invasion is to disarm the americans.
LOOK AT HISTORY. Mexico has always been our worst enemy. Even WWII Mexico was on the side of Germany & Japan. What makes you think this has suddenly changed?
The automatic weapons were sold by our government to Mexico. The police have had maasive desertions, and there went the guns .
I cannot for the life of me see how anyone cam believe any of this garbage being touted on how my gun rights are fueling a mexican drug cartel. How can anyone come to that conclusion? I cannot go anywhere in the US and "Legally" buy an automatic weapon, a grenade launcher, .....but a Mexican can come accross the border, walk into a gun show and buy "81" machine guns (as your Brady campaign moron likes to spew every 30 seconds), put said guns on his mule I guess or in his Impala....and go back and start killing innocent people? Are you that stupid to believe that? Come on, this whole BS story the Left-Wing is spewing is just that, a story and an excuse to try and take away my rights as an American, and your too! It starts here, then before you know it we are all marching in line following some infantile, sexually abused, power driven demented poor excuse for a man/woman into oblivion.
Not me, I ain't drinking your kool-aid!
