Nicole Kidman has opened up about her struggle to have another child with husband Keith Urban, revealing the couple “had a roller coaster ride with fertility.”

Kidman and Urban welcomed a baby girl, Faith Margaret, on December 28. She was born via a “gestational carrier”.

In an interview with the Australian edition of 60 Minutes, Kidman, who gave birth to daughter Sunday Rose in 2008, revealed that she had been “struggling with fertility” and turned to a surrogate.

“I’ve had a roller-coaster ride with fertility, she said.

“Anyone that’s been in the place of wanting another child or wanting a child knows the disappointment, the pain and the loss that you go through trying and struggling with fertility,” she said during the interview broadcast on Sunday.

“Fertility is such a big thing, and it’s not something I’ve ever run away from talking about.”

She added: “We were in a place of desperately wanting another child. This opportunity arose for us, and I couldn’t get pregnant.

Kidman, who was present at Faith’s birth, said of the surrogate:  She’s the most wonderful woman to do this for us. We were desperately wanting another child and I couldn’t get pregnant. I get emotional talking about it because I’m so grateful.”

The Oscar-winning actress also shared a photo of Faith with her sister Rose during the interview.

“There’s my little girls,” Kidman said, proudly showing a snap of the sisters on her sister on her iPhone. “I think it’s sweet isn’t it. She’s [Faith] got red hair. Sunday had red hair and then it went blonde. Sunday is very much her dad. Everyone says Faith is more me.”

Kidman also has two adopted children, Connor and Bella, with Tom Cruise.
