NFL vs. WWE: Bills Merriman and CM Punk Feud

| by Alex Groberman

In a battle of somewhat irrelevant athletes, Shawne Merriman of the Buffalo Bills and WWE superstar CM Punk exchanged some not-so-pleasant pleasantries in the new-age coliseum for gladiators – Twitter.

This particular mind-numbing feud began on Saturday night when Punk tweeted the following:

"Watching Shawne Merriman of the Buffalo Bills hit on our divas and strike out. Reminds me of the Bills in the Super Bowl."

Ouch. Though, to be fair, a guy who participates in the scripted soap opera that is professional wrestling should be good with his words.

Merriman, being the clever ol’ man that he is, responded with:

"I was just giving you guys some hope. Look like you were struggling by the pool."

Not exactly the zinger his fans (read: people who still know he’s in the NFL) were probably hoping for, but at least he tried.

Punk, then replied with:

"If you could get to a QB as fast as you ran after our divas, maybe you'd make headlines being a Pro Bowler and not a creep,"

Double ouch. Merriman, for his part, then offered this threat:

"How about I come and deliver a nice special Lights Out (butt) woopin tonight Costa Rican Style?"

Things kind of fizzled out at that point. Punk finally responded with the following, proclaiming himself the winner of this epic battle:

"Clearly, I have defeated you," he tweeted. "However, You will have plenty of time to think of a better come back while you ride the bench for another entire season."

While Punk did have some of the better quips in this exchange, I think it’s safe to say that everybody involved came out of it a loser.
