New Hampshire Legalizes Gay Marriage

After some last minute changes, New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch signed a bill this afternoon legalizing gay marriage. New Hampshire is now the sixth state to recognize same-sex marriage.

Lynch, a Democrat who says he personally opposes gay marriage, promised to veto the bill if it didn't specifically spell out that churches and other religious groups would not be forced to officiate at gay weddings or provide other services. Legislators made the changes, and Lynch signed the bill, saying:

"Today, we are standing up for the liberties of same-sex couples by making clear that they will receive the same rights, responsibilities — and respect — under New Hampshire law."

Opponents, mainly Republicans, criticized the legislative process. Kevin Smith, executive director of gay marriage opponent Cornerstone Policy Research, said:

"It is no surprise that the Legislature finally passed the last piece to the gay marriage bill today. After all, when you take 12 votes on five iterations of the same issue, you're bound to get it passed sooner or later."

When the law goes into effect January 1, 2010, New Hampshire will join Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, Vermont and Iowa in allowing gay marriage. California briefly allowed same sex marriage last year before voters banned it with the now infamous Prop 8. A court last week upheld that vote in California, but said those who had gotten married (roughly 18,000 couples) when the law was in effect would remain legally married.

Why would any one want same sex.It is not natural.I for one will keep my women!
Tell me guys and girls whats up with same sex.Whats better?

It's not a matter of something that is objectively better... but a personal 'preference'.

You do realize that homosexuals think the same way about heterosexual sex?

anecdote time:
I remember once talking with a gay guy I knew... a really (and when I say really I mean REALLY) attractive woman walked by. My jaw was on the floor and he couldn't care less. When I asked him "So that doesn't do anything for you?" he shrugged and pointed a a guy sitting on a bench "Does he do anything for you

"It is not natural."

What about it is unnatural?

"I for one will keep my women!"

I'm right there with you... I've got no sexual interest in men, and greatly enjoy the company of women.

But then there are people out there who enjoy watching basketball, whereas I like reading books... their choice makes no sense to me, but then I don't really care what they do because it does not impact me at all.

An entirely subjective question... can you ask 'what's better? hiking in the mountains or swimming in the ocean?" or 'what's better? baseball or cricket?'

I think Mr Book your right.I would like to hear from the other side.I all so have Gay frends. And they are more positive than most people,And fun to hang with! But I sill dont get it.

That is because the preference is completely subjective. It is like asking a fan why they prefer American football over real football. Or why I prefer a good dry Gin and Tonic over a Screwdriver... there is no objective distinction between the two.

Ok. Thanks

I'm excited. The more of these states this stuff passes in, the more likely it'll be that a national policy is put into place. Any bets on who's going to be the last holdout? My money 's on Utah.

If the Federal Government does what it did abortion what it will do to traditional marriage, essential kill it, it will bring unprecedented disaster to USA.
There are just too many reasons why this would be a travesty to America and families but mostly to children !
Im no politician but I think it could lead to 44 states seceeding from the Union or worse Civil War. I truely do not believe that it will be passed and put my complete trust and faith in God to prevent it from happening. My story at www.hope7.highpowersites.com
I am utterly ashamed of Lynch. Doesnt he realize that a good name is better than money ? Guess not for Lynch is not a good name.

Well if we look out across the world we can see many places where marriage is available regardless of the gender of each participant... and yet it has yet to rain blood...

How willing are you to defend marriage. Are you ready to kill for it? Do you know anyone that is?

your comment struck me a little hypocritical in that it is no secret that there is a branch of the homosexual underground that does kill people who oppose them or cause a threat to their agenda to recruit our children into homosexuality via the school system and adoption through same-sex marriage . You say...NO WAY...Well lets look at it a minute.
They have killed peoples reputations who are a threat, they have set up ex-gays to discredit them, they have targetted ministers of the faith and Christians who openly oppose them, they destroy families and careers, and that doesnt even begin to touch the homosexuals who abuse their high positions in the medical, law and police fields that actually DO KILL PEOPLE!!
So I find it very hypocritcal sounding that you would ask me if I would kill for traditional marriage when in fact the homosexual community has been killing us for years...just not with guns and knives but with more sinister avenues. So be careful not to be a HIGOT ( Homosexual bigot). To answer you question. No but I would DIE for defending tradtiional marriage. Have a good day.
