National Org. for Women: Catholic Democrat Bart Stupak is "Un-American"
Mary Pollock, legislative vice president of the Michigan chapter of the National Organization for Women, yesterday accused Rep. Bart Stupak, a Catholic, of imposing his religious beliefs on the nation. “It is outrageous and un-American,” Pollock said of the pro-life congressman.
Commenting on this remark is Bill Donohue of the Catholic League:
Smear words have been used against virtually every religious, racial and ethnic group in American history. Fortunately, they are rarely voiced anymore. Unfortunately, it is still fair game in many quarters to indict Roman Catholics. One of the most vile canards ever invoked against Catholics is the rap that they are “un-American.” This bigoted slur has its origins in the early part of the 19th century. It is more than disconcerting—it is disgusting—that it is still being made against Catholics in 2010. That it should come from the mouth of a radical feminist activist is not wholly surprising, but it is reprehensible nonetheless.
As the clock winds down on the health care bill, anti-Catholicism is raising its ugly head with greater frequency. It is time for men and women of goodwill from all faith backgrounds, and on both sides of the abortion issue, to unequivocally denounce these bigoted expressions. What Mary Pollock said should be condemned by everyone.

What Mary Pollock said should be condemned by everyone.
Mary Pollock is a bigot, plain to see.
Stupak could be Jewish or Muslim and his amendment would still be garbage.
This illogical amendment would force women to buy single-procedure riders (which, incidentally, don't currently exist) even though 50% of pregnancies are unintended and essentially all complicated pregnancies are unanticipated. Those people who currently have insurance that covers the procedure could lose that coverage, and the restrictions of the amendment would hinder the insurance industry's ability to market supplemental coverage.
No anti-Catholicism, just anti-authoritarianism.
As usual the liberal view is completely missing the point. Bart Stupak may not agree with Abortion, but he is no trying to impose his views on anyone. This is NOT about anyones choice to have or not have an abortion , but about my right NOT to pay for something that I firmly and completely believe to be immoral (MURDER). No one should have the right to TAKE money from me that I earn with my own hands and use it to kill children . I don't care what your abortion beliefs are, but I do believe that it is truly immoral for anyone to expect me to contribute to the slaughtering of innocent children. If you feel so strongly about it, there is a simple solution: USE YOUR OWN MONEY.
Paul
I fully agree that no tax payer money can go to any killing of any kind and here is how I define killing:
- the death penalty
- when lack of pre-natal health care causes mothers or their children to die
- when lack of heath care causes anyone to die
- when lack of food causes anyone to die
- when we start wars of choice (Iraq, Afghanistan) causes millions of innocent civilians to die
- ...
Furthermore, the brain of a fetus only starts to develop 3 months after conception. It is generally accepted that without a brain there is no human life. Aborting a fetus in the first 13 weeks (also called the first trimester) is therefore not murder .
You could argue that it is a potential human but a child already born that dies from lack of health care, lack of food, ... is more than potential human life.
It is really odd that the pro-lifers only care for the pre-born (Abortion) and the brain-dead (Terri Schiavo and the general principle of Euthanasia) and at the same time are pro-death penalty and pro- war . Go figure.
But let's join forces and make into law that no money should go to any killing of any kind, directly or indirectly.
