World Series of Poker Update

| by Sports Nickel

In case you missed it, the big news is that Phil Ivey has won his 8th World Series of Poker bracelet, after taking down the $3000 HORSE tournament.  Phil, considered possibly the best poker player in the world right now, won nearly $330,000 for the victory, but that will pale in comparison to what he’ll win in a prop bet he has with Howard Lederer if he wins one more bracelet in either this year’s series or next. Here’s a clue Howard….stop betting against Phil Ivey. Remember, when Phil Ivey won his 2nd bracelet of the 2009 series, he gave the entire prize pool to the dealers as a tip. Why? Because he won millions from his friends who bet him he couldn’t win two bracelets in one year.

In other news, Men “The Master” Nguyen nearly picked up his 8th bracelet, when he finished 2nd in the $5000 Six-Handed No-Limit Hold’em event. Men has already won one bracelet this year, and continues to prove that he is one of the best in the game.

And the final update is a big congrats to John Juanda. He has four cashes in the series this year, and all four are final tables, with a 3rd, two 4ths and a 5th. He has nearly $800,000 in winnings this year, and is making a strong push for the WSOP Player of the Year title. Juanda is one of the nicest guys on the circuit, and deserves all the recognition he is getting this year.
