The long-rumoured reboot of 1987 sci-fi flick Robocop has hit the skids – the project has reportedly been cancelled.
The unnecessary remake, due to be directed by Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler), was initially put on hold earlier this year due to ongoing financial problems at beleaguered movie studio MGM.
MGM was put up for sale in 2009 after falling into debt, and several films have fallen victim to its financial caca – the next Bond installment and The Hobbit being two major casualties.
An source tells Moviehole.net, “(RoboCop is) gone. Kaput. Cancelled. It was one of the first casualties. (Aronofsky) has lost interest anyway, I believe. (I) think we’re all just going to have to be happy with the three RoboCop movies that are out there”.
Fantastic news. Looks like we’ve dodged another bullet guys.
If it ain’t broke in the first place, don’t fix it.
