Al Gore Lends Support to Occupy Wall Street Protesters

Former US Vice President Al Gore threw his support behind the Occupy Wall Street Protesters on Thursday, calling it a first step towards fixing a democracy in crisis.

He wrote on his blog ( “From the economy to the climate crisis, our leaders have pursued solutions that are not solving our problems. Instead they propose policies that accomplish little."

“With democracy in crisis, a true grassroots movement pointing out the flaws in our system is the first step in the right direction. Count me among those supporting and cheering on the Occupy Wall Street movement.”

Under the blog was a link enabling readers to donate funds to the protesters in New York City who are challenging the influence of global corporations on politics and finance.

Gore served as vice president from 1993 to 2001 under Bill Clinton, then remained in the public spotlight through his environmental activism, including a starring role in the Oscar-winning documentary 'An Inconvenient Truth.'

He shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
