Fox News Downplays Lowest Unemployment Numbers Since 2008
Fox News often complains about high unemployment numbers, which they blame on President Obama, but didn't seem pleased when today's low unemployment stats were released.
According to the new jobs report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 288,000 jobs were added in June, which dropped the unemployment rate to 6.1, the lowest rate since September 2008.
The number of unemployed persons has declined in 2014 by 2.3 million.
However, MediaMatters.org notes that Fox Business host Charles Payne (pictured) tried to put a negative spin on the news by tweeting on Twitter:
Is the jobs number too good for the stock market...equity futures are drifting lower not sure how to react
However, according to the Associated Press the Dow Jones Industrial Average topped 17,000 and "the market rose from the start of trading after the government reported that U.S. employers hired more employees than investors and economists expected."
MediaMatters.org also notes that the Fox News website offered a small blurb about the unemployment numbers compared to the headlines on other news websites.
The conservative website CNSNews.com dug for negative numbers in light of today's good news, and reported that the "unemployment rate for black Americans is more than double that of white Americans."
