After posting details of his close encounter online, a Chinese farmer was arrested by authorities for making a fake alien and misleading the masses.

The farmer, identified only as Mr. Li by Chinese media, built an alien sculpture out of chicken wire and rubber, and then posted the photo online. As soon as the photos reached Chinese police officers, they sought out Li and arrested him for "fabrications" that "disturbed the public order."

In an online post on a Chinese website, Li wrote, “I was setting an electric trap for rabbits by the Yellow River when I saw a bright light. Above my bike, a UFO was floating. One by one, five aliens came down, but one of them stumbled into one of my rabbit traps and was electrocuted. The others went back into their ship and flew away."

The post went viral in China, which is how the authorities caught wind of Li’s misdeeds.

The police, allegedly looking after the extremely gullible, then deleted the post.

Li, who spent five days behind bars for his crime, admitted he had made the alien and intended to mislead the public into believing in extraterrestrial life.

“After the police interrogated me, I confessed I was a fan of UFOs and the alien was a fake," he told the Shandong Evening News. "I just wanted other people to believe that aliens existed."
