According to multiple reports, the UFC is in negotiations to purchase control of the struggling video game network, G4 TV, from NBCUniversal.
The Wall Street Journal reported that UFC officials are in talks to buy control of the network, which would give them their own distribution platform, along with further partnership with NBC and Comcast. MMAFighting.com has reported that it’s a virtual certainty the organization does not stay with Spike TV, and G4 TV is a very likely new home for UFC programming.
This is awesome. The network is struggling now, but a shot of UFC would surely revive it, just look at what the UFC did for Spike TV. Not to mention that the UFC would have their own network to run whatever programming they want. This is a huge win if the deal gets done.
Shane Carwin told ESPN UK that he’s going to finish Junior Dos Santos. “I just happen to be really good at fighting, and I make a living doing it. I like Junior Dos Santos, I respect Junior Dos Santos, but I’m gonna knock him out, or I’m gonna tap him out, and I’m not going to feel any remorse for it…Junior Dos Santos can’t match my wrestling skills. I’ve been wrestling since I was six years old…This is real simple. I’m not paid by the round, I’m paid to win. My whole dream is to be the UFC champion, and to get that title shot I’ve got to go through Junior Dos Santos…I don’t have a doubt in my mind that I’ll beat Junior Dos Santos, and then I’m going after the title.” Carwin submitting Dos Santos? I scoff at that. No freaking way. Knock him out? Now we’re talking. There’s a very good chance that someone is losing consciousness in this fight.
The entire preliminary card for UFC 131 will stream on the UFC’s Facebook page (Facebook.com/UFC), as well as their YouTube page (YouTube.com/UFC), starting at 6PM ET. Hopefully the YouTube page has less lag than the Facebook page. If so, keep them coming.
Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker revealed during a media conference call that Gina Carano’s medical clearance has been revoked by her doctor and she is out of next Saturday’s Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum event. *Yawn* What? Oh, Gina’s not fighting. Bad news for those who want to “see” her, but the fight interested me very little.
Martin Kampmann is out of his bout with John Howard at UFC on Versus 4 due to injury, and Matt Brown has been pulled from his bout with Rich Attonito to take his place. Attonito will now face off against Daniel Roberts on the card. MATT BROWN! That’s right, Brown is always ready to step up, but he better win. He’s lost 3 straight.
