Tito Ortiz talks told Gareth Davies of the UK Telegraph that the UFC approached him about hanging it up after he lost to Matt Hamill.

“Dana White and Joe Silva told me they wanted me to retire, but I knew I still had the fight inside me. I pretty much begged for my job, to show how much I want to fight, but I still have it in my heart to compete, to fight. I told them I want to still fight against the top guys, I want to put on a show…I made some mistakes against Hamill. I didn’t respect his takedown. The UFC called me after that fight and said ‘we want you to retire.’ I was shocked, I thought they were kidding around. I took it as they didn’t want to pay me, to give me what I’m worth. I’m competing against the top guys and I’m not getting dominated.”

Yeah, I don’t know if Ortiz should retire. Not that it matters, but I think he actually beat Forrest Griffin in their second match-up. But it’s a wash, because he lost the first fight in my opinion. Either way, it’s not like Ortiz is getting dominated. He’s losing, yeah, but he’s in every fight.

During the teleconference for UFC 132, Chris Leben discussed fighting Wanderlei Silva. “I’ll be honest, I’m excited to fight Wanderlei and I’m a little scared at the same time too, but I think for me that’s a very motivating and driving emotion. There’s nothing more motivating than the fear of a coma…Honestly, I’m so excited to fight Wanderlei. He’s one of my heroes. Believe it or not – and I really don’t want to tell him this – but he’s one of the reasons I started. When I very first started fighting, I used to go get bootleg Pride videos and watch them, and in some ways try to emulate some of the stuff he did.” Honestly I think everyone is “scared” when they fight. Maybe not scared of the fight, but scared of losing. I don’t think Leben has a shot to win this, but we’ll see.

UFC officials announced that Takanori Gomi will return to the Octagon for the UFC 135 card, which takes place on September 24 at the Denver’s Pepsi Center, against Nate Diaz. Maybe he can get some sort of revenge against Nick Diaz by defeating his brother. I hope so.

MMAFighting.com is reporting that an illness has forced T.J. Grant out of his UFC on Versus 4 bout with Charlie Brenneman this Sunday, knocking Charlie Brenneman off the card altogether. Well that sucks for Brenneman. I’m sure the UFC will try to schedule this fight on another upcoming card as soon as possible. But not getting paid can’t be fun.

Jon Fitch took to his Twitter account to reveal his target return event. “Great news. I will be cleared to start training camp Sept 1. I’ll be more than ready for UFC in San Jose.” Yay, the wet blanket returns. I don’t wanna hear it Fitch fans, the man just lays on people. He fights smart, but he fights lame.
