MMA News: Antonio Silva on Brock Lesnar Faking, Ben Askren and More

| by Sports Nickel

Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva told Sherdog.com that he believes Brock Lesnar is faking his illness. “I don’t want to judge anyone and I really wish it’s not a big health problem for [Lesnar], but I have some doubts. That big guy doesn’t like being punched. In his last fights, he was put in the fetal position by Shane Carwin and Cain Velasquez, which is humiliating for a fighter. I think he pulled out of the fight against ‘Cigano,’ who is a real heavy puncher and a real tough opponent for someone who doesn’t like being punched.”

Uh, what? That might have to be the single most stupid comment of the year by a MMA fighter. Congrats. A) The illness almost ended his career the first time around, and B) Lesnar went right back at Carwin after getting punched in the face and choked him out. I highly doubt he’s afraid of anyone. Silva has hated Lesnar from the gate though, and I’m sure he’s trying to take a shot at him whenever he can, but poor timing.

Current Bellator Welterweight Champion Ben Askren told MMAWeekly.com that he’s moving on to the UFC. “I love what Bellator’s doing for me, and I’ve got nothing against that, but my goal is to be the best in the world, and I simply can’t accomplish that in Bellator at this point. If I somehow could, I’d be fine to stay in Bellator…I’m on the top of Bellator and I’m ranked 15th in the world, and so I think every single person above me is either in the UFC or Strikeforce, which is essentially all UFC…If I want to accomplish the goals I want to accomplish, then [a move to the UFC is inevitable].” Gonna have to agree with Askren. He’s looked better and better, but he really needs a step up in competition, and he’s not going to get it in Bellator.

This judge looked an inmate square in the eyes and did something that left the entire courtroom in tears:

UFC officials announced on Tuesday that the three preliminary card fights not scheduled for the Spike TV broadcast will stream live on Facebook.com: Bart Palaszewski vs. Gleison Tibau, Michael McDonald vs. Chris Cariaso, and Cole Escovedo vs. Renan Barao. Looks like it’s going to be a regular thing. The seem to have improved some of the lag problems, so everyone should watch.

According to a report from Sherdog.com, Strikeforce has signed 27-year-old lightweight free agent, Maximo Blanco. This is a real good signing. He’s a former Lightweight King of Pancrase and he’s won five straight fights under the Sengoku: World Victory Road banner, six overall. I’m sure he’ll get a top Strikeforce lightweight in his first bout.

MMAjunkie.com is reporting that Shane Nelson has agreed to replace Antonio McKee at DREAM.17 Fight for Japan and face Shinya Aoki. Weak. Nelson has all of 3% chance for an upset in this one. The real upset will be if he actually gets paid. BaZING!
