MMA News: Coker vs. White, Sylvia in the UFC and More Updates

1. Scott Coker defines difference between himself and Dana White: Jonathan Snowden at asked Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker about the difference between himself and Dana White. “Dana is kind of like the Don King. He’s out there and he’s out promoting his brand as well as the company brand and the fighter brand. I’m more of a very direct business man. The guy I really liked wasn’t Don King. To me, it’s okay being the Bob Arum. In a lot of Bob’s early fights, you didn’t even know who promoted the fights. The fights were amazing, they were great, and they were focused on the athlete. That’s been my philosophy too. The stars of the show are in the cage.” Ummm, what? To my knowledge Bob Arum was highly successful, and not really a #2 to Don King. Coker and Strikeforce are definitely a #2 to the UFC. I guess I understand what he’s saying, but let’s back the truck up.

2. Dana White responds to Scott Coker’s comparison: asked Dana White about Scott Coker comparing himself to Bob Arum. “He [expletive] wishes he was Bob Arum. Are you  [expletive] me? Bob Arum put on some of the biggest fights in boxing history, and Bob is actually successful and made money. For you to compare yourself to [expletive] Bob Arum is hysterical. You can call me Don King or whatever you want. But calling yourself Bob Arum is a [expletive] joke.” And owned. I wouldn’t call White Don King, but I’m with Dana on this one.

3. Winner of Sylvia/Rizzo not coming to the UFC: Despite rumors that the winner of Tim Sylvia and Pedro Rizzo would be getting another shot in the UFC, Dana White told that that’s not the case. “Pedro Rizzo is a great dude. I have a good relationship with him. I’ve always had respect for him. In no way, shape or form do I want to disrespect Pedro because I really do like him, but he needs to retire. I’d like to see Pedro retire.” Agreed. Sylvia isn’t coming back and Rizzo, even though on a 3-fight win streak, should hang it up after this next fight.

4. The Korean Zombie is on the lose: Soldiers at Fort Hood in Texas will get a taste of some exciting UFC featherweight action come January 22. Chan Sung Jung, a.k.a. “The Korean Zombie” is reportedly making an appearance when he takes on former WEC Bantamweight Title challenger Rani Yahya at UFC Fight for the Troops 2. The news came from Yahya’s manager himself in an interview with Portal do Vale Tudo Radio. Awesome. The troops, and us fans watching at home, will get a great fight to watch. This entire event should be exciting.

5. Migeul Torres’s next fight: According to multiple published reports, former WEC Bantamweight Champion Miguel Torres is expected to meet Antonio Banuelos at UFC 126. has confirmed the fight will be part of the pay-per-view main card. UFC 126 takes place Feb. 5 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, NV, and will be headlined by the middleweight title fight between Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort. Of course it’s on the main card, and it’s a nice addition. I highly doubt this, or the main event, will go to a decision. So don’t blink.
