This isn’t good. The New York Mets are not a great baseball team right now and, in case you haven’t heard, they don’t have a lot of money to be throwing around to improve. They are expected to lose tens and tens of millions this year, so we doubt that Queens will be a huge landing spot for free agents.
Because of that situation, they need to really rely on their prospects. Guys like Jennry Mejia, the 21-year old with a 2.86 ERA in five starts in Triple-A Buffalo?
Well, there is some bad news. Mejia has been diagnosed with a complete tear in his elbow and it seems like surgery is likely. He is waiting on a second opinion, but it’s not looking good.
Baseball America had him rated as the 44th most promising prospect in baseball this year (whatever the hell that even means), and in case you haven’t noticed, the Mets don’t have a farm system that can take on a lot of water.
