Peace, peace, peace
Keeping with the holiday spirit, it seemed only fitting that December's Mantra of the Month be one that invokes peace and harmony. This mantra is part of the Shanti [Peace] Mantras found in the Upanishads and is an expression of the harmonious relationship between teacher and student.
I like to believe that we are all teacher and student at the same time, so reciting this mantra is a blessing of peace and harmony for all. My Sivananda teacher chants this mantra at the opening of every class and I absolutely love it. Inherent in the words and the rythmn is an overwhelming sense of peace and love. It is truly a magnifcient mantra.
I haven't had the chance to record my teacher singing this beautiful mantra (maybe one day soon!), but I found this video which you can listen to and get an idea of what it should sound like.
May there be peace in your heart, peace in your home and peace one day for this world.
