Klitschko vs. Haye Set for July 2; Trash Talking Begins Immediately

| by Alex Groberman

On Wednesday, the fight that everybody has been dying to see became official. David Haye -- barring a new "injury" -- will square off against Wladimir Klitschko on July 2 in Hamburg.

This battle has been a very long time in the making. After over two years of threats, empty promises and non-stop disappointments, Haye, will put his WBA belt on the line against the current IBF/WBO and IBO champion. This highly anticipated unification bout will occur at the Imtech Arena – a venue capable of holding 57,000 spectators.

Via his website, Haye had this to say regarding the match:

"It's great to finally find out the date and venue...I've been training for this fight since the end of 2010 and it's nice to now have a concrete date to work towards.

"Hamburg is an accessible city for a lot of British fans, so I'm expecting a huge turnout for what is undoubtedly the biggest boxing event of the year. We're going to have an army of Brits invading Germany on July 2nd and I can't wait to sample the atmosphere."

The Klitschko’s camp has also come out to confirm the match, by way of their Facebook page:

"Let's get ready to rumble!!! The highly anticipated fight is on."

Ever since Haye rose from the cruiserweight division, a battle between these two titans in the sport has been written in the stars. It came close to happening a number of times, but most recently, Haye was forced to back out of a planned fight against Klitschko in 2009 due to a back injury.

Needless to say, the cancellation didn’t sit well with either man. Since then, both camps have engaged in an endless war of words that has only served to raise anticipation levels for the match that will finally come to fruition on July 2.

"Wladimir has a history of being knocked out by fast punchers, and I punch faster than every other heavyweight in the world," Haye bragged.

"I've got no doubt Wladimir will freeze like an iceberg when I hit him on the chin in Hamburg. He won't know how to react, will panic, attempt to run for cover and then realize big brother Vitali is in the corner mopping up tears with a white towel."
