USC's Lane Kiffin Responds to Titans' Jeff Fisher

| by Off The Record

Have you ever heard someone say that when you continually have problems with everyone around you that eventually you are the problem? Well, if you haven’t, you just did. We’re pretty much sure that’s the case with USC head coach Lane Kiffin.

He infuriated Al Davis and the Oakland Raiders organization for a variety of reasons. But, Davis is a little crazy so we weren’t sure who to believe.

Then he went to the University of Tennessee and pissed a bunch of people off there for committing a bunch of NCAA violations that he should have known about, and then jumping ship to the University of Southern California.

His latest is when he hired Tennessee Titans running backs coach Kennedy Pola to be USC’s offensive coordinator. Titans coach Jeff Fisher was absolutely furious, because common courtesy in those situations is to call the head coach to give him (or her) a head’s up that you are interested in one of their staff members.

Of course, Kiffin never did that, and Fisher didn’t care for it.

“I am very disappointed in Lane Kiffin’s approach to this,” Fisher said to Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean. “Typically speaking when coaches are interested in hiring or discussing potential employment from coaches on respective staffs there is a courtesy call made from the head coach or athletic director indicating there is an interest in talking to the assistant.

“So I am very disappointed in the lack of professionalism on behalf of Lane, to call me and leave me a voice mail after Kennedy had informed me he had taken the job. It is just a lack of professionalism.”

Add another person to the List of People Who Don’t Like Lane Kiffin (LPWDLLK). But, Kiffin responded to those comments without really saying much of anything.

“We reached out to Kennedy Pola [on Friday] to gauge whether he had any possible interest in returning to USC before we moved forward with the process,” Kiffin said.

“Kennedy said he would think about it and get back to us today. Once Kennedy did call back earlier today, out of my great respect for Coach Fisher I immediately reached out to Coach to make him aware of the situation. I have spoken with Coach Fisher and he now has an accurate understanding of the timeline of events,” Kiffin said.

Right. You didn’t call him ahead of time to let him know you were interested in one of his guys. That was Fisher’s point.
