Devastating. Wheeler’s attorney and friend Bayard Marin said of him: “This is just not the kind of guy who gets murdered. This is not the kind of guy you find in a landfill.”

Another friend, James Fallows, a writer for The Atlantic, wrote a piece about his friend and said that John P. Wheeler III had just written him an email on Christmas. It was short and simple, but seemed to have presaged his looming death.

>>Jim, Merry Christmas, Old Friend. Onward and upward.

Rest in peace, Jack Wheeler. A terrible loss to many.
