We have a new Miss Universe -- 22-year-old Jimena Navarrete of Mexico. She took the crown at the annual event in Las Vegas Monday night.
Jimena wowed the crowd and the judges with her one-strap, flowing red gown, finishing first in the evening gown competition. She also looks good with fewer items of clothing on, finishing second in the swimsuit portion of the show.
But it was her answer to a question about unsupervised children using the Internet that really impressed everyone.
"I do believe that Internet is an indispensable, necessary tool for the present time," she said through an interpreter. "We must be sure to teach them the values that we learned as a family."
The first runner-up was Miss Jamaica Yendi Phillipps, while the second runner-up was Miss Australia Jesinta Campbell.
Miss USA Rima Fakih, the first Muslim-American woman to win the Miss USA competition, did not make it to the final round of 15.
Jimena won a package of prizes including an undisclosed salary, a luxury New York apartment with living expenses, a one-year scholarship to the New York Film Academy with housing after her reign, plus jewelry, clothes and shoes.
