Flight attendants usually go out of their way to be nice to passengers. You can't say that about Steven Slater, apparently. According to passengers and police, he "snapped" after a JetBlue flight landed on Monday. He cursed over the intercom, and then used an emergency chute to escape the plane.
It all started after the plane touched down at Kennedy Airport. Passengers say a man got up to get his things from the overhead compartment. When Slater told him to sit down, the man told him to
When the plane pulled into the terminal and passengers got up to begin leaving, Slater got onto the intercom. Depending on which report is true, he said some variation of this:

"To the f**king ass**** that told me to f**k off, it’s been a good 28 years!"
"To the passenger who called me a motherf**ker, f**k you. I've been in the business 28 years. I've had it. That's it."
As shocking as that was, it was nothing compared to what Slater did next -- the 100 passengers watched as he activated the emergency exit, releasing the inflatable chute, and slid out of the plane.

The 39-year-old Slater went home to his house in Queens, where he was promptly arrested, charged with criminal mischief and reckless endangerment.
JetBlue released a statement confirming the chute was indeed activated. It said no one was hurt, and the plane was evacuated safely.
Slater's neighbors are stunned. "He’s a doll, Janet Babasso told the New York Post. "What could have provoked that? He’s the sweetest, mellowest guy I ever met," said Janet Babasso. "I cannot picture him sliding down a chute!"
"I can’t believe Steve’s on the run," said her husband Bruce Babasso. "He’s like OJ Simpson. He must have snapped." He added, "He must have had the JetBlue blues."
