Jesse James has opened up in a new interview and claims that he has “started life over”.
James is soon to release a memoir entitled American Outlaw. Included in his CV is memoir writer, CEO of West Coast Choppers, and host of Discovery show Monster Garage. Oh, and let’s not forget philandering ex husband of America’s sweetheart, actress Sandra Bullock.
James sat down for a candid interview with People magazine to promote his new book and discuss last year’s events. “Everything got ripped to shreds,” he said of the scandal from his home base outside of Austin, Texas. “I was at my breaking point.”
James spent 30 days at an Arizona treatment centre after news of his affairs emerged. James says that not only did the stay help him with the fallout after his marriage crumbled, but also identified issues which lead to his behaviour. He had an abusive childhood and a turbulent life, leading him to feel anger and shame, he says.
“I always felt out of place my whole life,” says 42-year-old James. “I never felt successful, never felt I deserved anything.”
He says he is taking “full accountability” for his infidelity, but is concentrating on moving forward and not looking backwards.
“I’m moving forward, thinking clearly and becoming a better person. … I have started life over.”
James has shut down WCC and made his home and work base in rural Texas. He says, “I’ve made my world pretty small. Now I can focus on what’s important: making sure [my] kids get good grades and are happy and healthy.”
One topic you won’t find covered in James’ memoir is his adopted son with Bullock, Louis. “Talking about Louis almost felt too intimate,” says James. “He is so sweet and I miss him.”
James is now engaged to Kat Von D, star of TV show LA Ink.
