Rapper Ja Rule Gets 2-Year Jail Term For Weapon Possession

Rapper Ja Rule reached a plea deal with prosecutors today in a Manhattan courtroom and will serve two years in prison.

Ja Rule will be serving two years in prison, stemming from a gun arrest in July 2007 when he was arrested after a performance.

The rapper entered a guilty plea to attempted criminal possession of a weapon, a class D felony in the second degree.

“Minor setback for a major comeback,” he tweeted today.

Ja Rule will reportedly be sentenced in February.

The rapper was arrested in 2007 when police discovered a loaded semiautomatic weapon in the rear door of his car. Ja could have faced seven years in jail if he had been found guilty, but with the plea deal he will serve around 16 months.
