Yeehaw little doggies, we’re doing a Dance Off the Inches: Country Line Dance Party workout DVD review! From the get-go I thought this one might be a little cheesier than most workout DVDs we review, and I was right about that, but it didn’t make it any less awesome. See, I’m someone who doesn’t really listen to country unless it involves Johnny Cash, so I went into this DVD a little close-minded—but I changed my mind after a few two-steps into this rodeo. To my surprise—despite some ridiculous costumes (who works out in jean shorts and a cowboy hat, really?!)—I found this workout to be a Southern good time.
Instructor Amy Blackburn kicks off the DVD (quite literally) with a 13-minute guide that shows you all the country-dancin’ steps. Then she puts them all together (with a warm-up and cool down, of course) in a 45-minute dance party. With a little sass, some “cowgirl hands” (hands on your hips) and lots of shuffles, stomps and kicks, you will get a low- to moderate-intensity cardio workout. And for those of you with white-girl dance skills, you will easily master these dance moves that don’t require much more than the occasional scoot or hip thrust. Plus, it has a DVD menu that breaks down the dances into chapters, so if there’s a dance you really dig, you can go straight to it.
Despite the outfits, the only time I rolled my eyes was when Amy started talking in her cute accent about how she felt like she’d already lost a pound. Not only does she not need to lose weight, but it’s also a fact that you have to burn 3,500 calories to lose a pound—and I’d guesstimate in this workout that you only burn about 300 calories if you’re really giving it your cowgirl all. Overall though, the moves are easy to follow, fun and it’s a boot-scootin’ good time!
