Yankees Civil War: Hank Steinbrenner Jealous of Derek Jeter?

| by

Am I the only one who thought that Hank Steinbrenner took a jab at Derek Jeter yesterday?

Don't know what I'm talking about? Yesterday Steinbrenner remarked, “I think, maybe, they celebrated too much last year. Some of the players, too busy building mansions and doing other things and not concentrating o winning. I have no problem saying that.”

When it was pointed out that New York Yankees captain was building a large multimillion dollar home in Tampa last year, Steinbrenner said he wasn’t singling out any individual and tried to backtrack stating, “I was just saying, maybe they were riding the wave of ’09 a little too much, and it happens sometimes. This year in spring so far, from what I’ve seen and what I’ve been told, they’ve come in with a real, new drive and determination – the kind they had in ’09.”

While the old Yankee Stadium was referred to as “The House that Ruth Built”. Many of the younger Yankee fans refer to the new Yankee Stadium as the "The House That Jeter Built". The reality though is that “the house that Jeter built” is in Tampa Florida. In fact, just one month ago on January 19th, the Tampa building department issued a certificate of occupancy for the structure, a place where the living-still laying Yankee Legend now calls his permanent home.

The $7.7 million house has seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms dwarfing the surrounding homes on Bahama Circle in Davis Islands. According to public records, construction began on the 30,000-square-foot mansion early last year. This was no spur of the moment decision by Derek as he purchased the adjacent lots on which the home sits in 2005 and 2006.

The mansion (above) has been described by some as the size of an electronic department store and by some accounts is being reported as biggest house, square-footage-wise, in the county. Jeter recently put his New York City penthouse (below) on the market for $20 million.

I don't know what type of crib Hank is sporting, but I'm pretty sure it's nothing like this. And he's definitely not going home with anything that looks like Minka Kelly.... Just saying.

P.S. - Am I the only one who came to the conclusion from the photo of Jeter's penthouse that he's a Peeping Tom?
