I'm Living In An Aspie World

| by

Here’s a song I wrote about life as an Aspie. Words are my own, set to the tune of “It’s a Big Old Goofy World” by John Prine.

————————

Up bright and early
Trying to be strong
Let’s see if I can face
My challenges all day long

My stupid social screwups
Just come up unplanned
All these social rules I just
Can’t seem to understand.

This judge looked an inmate square in the eyes and did something that left the entire courtroom in tears:

Life’s pretty lonely
I haven’t any friends
Why I am the way I am
Nobody comprehends.

I come across as brash
And perhaps narcissistic too
People just write me off
But they haven’t got a clue.

I’m just an Aspie man
Giving this crazy life a whirl
Oh, baby
I’m living in an Aspie world.

I once had a woman
Who loved me so true
She made me feel better
When I was feeling blue

But she couldn’t get past
My lack of empathy
She said I was cold
And unfeeling as could be.

I’m just an Aspie man
Giving this crazy life a whirl
Oh, baby
I’m living in an Aspie world.

I have a great mind
It’s so smart and so bright
But it spins so fast
That I lie awake at night.

It’s a crying shame
It seems like it’s going to waste
Everything I try I just
End up falling flat-faced

Everybody laughs
And they make fun of me
I wonder why
They can’t just let me be

Life’s so hard sometimes
All I can do is cry
Why I was cursed with this
I’ll never understand why.

I’m just an Aspie man
Giving this crazy life a whirl
Oh, baby
I’m living in an Aspie world

Oh, baby
I’m living in an Aspie world
