A brutal culture of violence in Chicago public schools has been revealed as hundreds of former and current students have come forward to tell stories of being beaten with broomsticks, choked and stomped as a means of punishment. Investigators have examined over 800 such allegations of abuse and have determined the majority of them to be true.
In response, Chicago Public Schools has released a statement reading in part, "The allegations surrounding the use of corporal punishment are troubling and deserve immediate attention...A thorough review into this matter is under way to ensure these incidents do not occur in the future."
