'Honor Killing' in Ariz.; Woman Run Over By Father, Dies

A 20-year-old woman from Iraq died in an Arizona
hospital Monday, two weeks after her father ran her over with his SUV, authorities say,
because she had become "too Westernized."

Noor Faleh Almaleki (left) died of injuries suffered October 20 in a suburban Phoenix parking lot. Police said they expect prosecutors to change the aggravated assault charge
against 48-year-old Faleh Hassan Almaleki to more severe counts.

Faleh Hassan Almaleki believed his daughter had become
"too Westernized" and had abandoned "traditional" Iraqi values, according to police reports. Peoria, Ariz. police
spokesman Mike Tellef told CNN: "the family moved to the Phoenix area in the
mid-1990s, and Almaleki was unhappy with his daughter's style of dress and her
resistance to his rules."

Almaleki's father initially drove to Mexico after the assault and abandoned his vehicle. Peoria police say he then traveled to Mexico City and flew to Britain. However, UK authorities denied him entry into the country and placed him on a plane bound for the United States.

According to the NY Daily News, Almaleki has already admitted his guilt. "By his own admission, this was an intentional act and the reason was that his
daughter had brought shame on him and his family," county prosecutor Stephanie Low told a Maricopa County judge.

Almaleki is being held in a Phoenix jail. Despite being an apparent flight risk and an alleged admission, his bail has been set at $5
million.
