Hero Dog Saves 11-Year-Old Boy from Cougar Attack

| by DeepDiveAdmin

The old saying "dog is man's best friend" is an understatement when it comes to a boy and his dog in Canada. The dog is also a lifesaver, considering she jumped in the way of an attacking cougar.

Austin Foreman, 11, was gathering firewood in his backyard in British Columbia over the weekend when his yellow lab Angel started acting strangely. The boy said the dog was following him all over, as if to guard him.

And that's just what happened when a cougar charged at Austin. Angel jumped over a lawnmower and right into the path of the cougar. The two animals went at each other.

"I knew at that moment that I would have to go get help, otherwise [Angel] wouldn't have any hope," Austin said.

Austin ran into the house, and his mother called 911. When officers arrived, they found the cougar under the back porch of the house, chewing on the dog's neck. They shot the cougar dead.

Angel emerged bloody, with puncture wounds on her head, neck and one of her hind legs. But she's going to be all right.

"She was my best friend, but now she's more than a best friend — she's like my guardian now," said Austin, who was not hurt.

"I feel very, very lucky. If it wasn't for my dog, I don't think I would be here."
