Actress Heather Locklear has been charged in a hit-and-run accident in California. However, she collided with a "no parking" sign -- not another motorist or pedestrian.
According to a report on TMZ.com, a car jumped the curb and knocked down the sign on a street in Westlake Village at 4 a.m. Saturday. A resident called police later that night. During the course of the investigation, police determined the car was Locklear's BMW. They went to her nearby house and saw damage on her car consistent with the accident.
Locklear is charged with a misdemeanor. Although she was never taken into custody, the Ventura County Sheriff's Department said any hit-and-run citation constitutes an "arrest."
Locklear's lawyer confirmed the story, but will not confirm that Locklear was the driver. Blair Berek told TMZ, "Ms. Locklear was cited with a misdemeanor traffic ticket as she is the registered owner of the vehicle. She was never taken into custody. The matter is still being looked into as it is not yet clear who was driving the vehicle."
Locklear pleaded no contest to driving under the influence of prescription drugs in Santa Barbara in 2008. Prosecutors there say they are looking into this latest incident to determine if it violates her parole.
