Rumour control: Heard the internet rumour that unused footage of the late Heath Ledger as the Joker will be used in the new Batman flick? So has the director.
And the verdict?
It’s not happening.
A rumour surfaced earlier this week that director Christopher Nolan was planning on using unused footage of Ledger as the Joker in The Dark Knight Rises.
Nolan and partner/producer Emma Thomas have now confirmed it’s a no-go. “I heard the rumour,” Thomas told The Hollywood Reporter. “We’re not doing that.”
Nolan also said the script wasn’t yet finished, and he believes Ledger’s performance as the Joker should be contained to the 2008 film, The Dark Knight.
Nolan’s got it right. As much as I love Ledger, it wouldn’t be the same watching old footage of him inserted into a new film. People need to be able to appreciate the new film as is.
In the meantime, I’ll comfort myself with Ten Things I Hate About You. The singing scene in particular…
