An Illinois woman impressively delivered her own baby while her husband was driving to the hospital.
Beth Farina, who is studying to be a nurse and a midwife, knew that she wasn’t going to make it to the hospital, even though she and her husband were only a mile away when she suddenly felt the urge to push.
“When we got on the Tollway, I knew we were not going to make it to the hospital,” said Beth. “I was like, ‘This baby is coming, you better drive faster.’”
Beth’s husband Trevor told reporters that he asked if she wanted to pull over, but she refused and ultimately gave birth to the baby boy while they were driving in the car.
“She told me she feels like we need to push, and I said, ‘The best I can do right now is pull over and call 911,' and she told me to keep going,” said Trevor.
“I waited for the next contraction, pushed him out, pulled him up onto my chest,” said Beth. “My husband was on the phone with 911 and they said, ‘Do you have something to wrap him in?’ We found something to wrap him in and wrapped him up.”
Beth gave birth to the child’s third couple, a healthy baby boy, and even though the process wasn’t as she expected, Beth says she’s happy that they’ll have an interesting story to tell.
“It wasn't planned, but I'm glad it happened the way it did, because it will be a story for the rest of our lives,” said Beth.
Reports say that Beth had been in labor for about five hours prior to giving birth in the moving car.
