A 17-year-old pregnant teen was shot and killed in a Chicago suburb on Christmas day, though her baby girl survived.
Eva Casara was found shot in the head between two houses in south suburban Dolton. She was 26 weeks pregnant.
Police say Casara had been in the alley for at least 40 minutes when they found her bleeding profusely from the head. She was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Police are looking at video from a neighbor's surveillance camera and asking others for information regarding the shooting.
"Neighbors are telling me they heard multiple gunshots last night, so we're trying to help the Dolton Police Department," community activist Andrew Holmes said.
Casara's mother, Estrellita Casara, told reporters Thursday that she missed her daughter and asked viewers to help bring justice to the case.
"My princess," Casara said. "I miss her so much. Please, somebody, anybody, help me with my baby."
Casara was completing her GED and had plans to go to a community college, her mother explained. Casara had wanted to have a better life for her unborn daughter.
The newly born little girl will be named Lailani Paris Casara, according to family members. She currently resides at Doctors at Advocate Christ Medical Center, where she is being cared for.
