A photo posted by a breast cancer patient of her tumor went viral just before she underwent a life-saving mastectomy.

Lisa Royle, from Manchester, England, posted the photo of the lump she originally found on her breast, which prompted her to get properly examined, days before she was scheduled to have the surgery. Royle, 42, said she did it to implore women everywhere to check themselves for lumps.

“So here it is..... This all that I found on my boob,” she wrote, adding that she never thought she’d “post a boob picture on Facebook,” but ultimately decided to “before it gets chopped off next week." In her post, Royle urged her Facebook followers to “take time to look at your boobs” because lumps are often easy to miss.

“Very subtle dimples underneath that could easily be missed when we're all rushing round getting ready in a morning,” she wrote. “Please take time to look at your boobs. It could save you're [sic] life." Her post garnered over 50,000 shares on Facebook.

After surgery, Royle’s husband, Craig, called his wife an “inspiration” and said she was “doing really well.”

“Bit groggy from the morphine but in good spirits and should be home later this evening,” he wrote online.

Response to Royle’s brave post on Facebook was overwhelmingly positive, with followers praising her for speaking out and raising awareness.

“Thank you Lisa, you are very brave, thank for showing us what it looks like so we can check our own breasts,” Facebook user Melanie Wilson wrote.

“You're an amazing, inspiring lady with the biggest heart to share your story to help others,” another, Carol Walton, added. “I wish you and your family endless strength, courage and positive energy every minute of every day. Keep shining and smiling.”
